Re: New hire bids
Lots of YUL DH8 guys and girls are switching bases. It's tough to live in Montreal if you don't speak French, especially for those pilots with spouses. Finding work is not as easy as people think.flyer 1492 wrote:Latest ground school draw was all YUL 6 DH8, 6 CRJ

Re: New hire bids
Everyone in montreal knows English, I don't speak French and live in Yul. My buddy is a bar tender here and doesn't know a lick of French. If you are new to jazz, don't be scared to stay and embrace it a bit. Might surprise yourself. People switch bases for lots of reasons but it's also a good opportunity to have a good job in an awesome city. There are those who hate every second here because it's not Calgary or Vancouver and those who embrace their time in a new culture.HansDietrich wrote:Lots of YUL DH8 guys and girls are switching bases. New hires, don't listen to Hans. It's not tough to live here. It's awesome. As for spouses, meh, whatever.

Spoken like a juvenile. "Bar Tender" I'm surprised you didn't say "McDonalds Drive Thru associate".Zoo till Two wrote:Everyone in montreal knows English, I don't speak French and live in Yul. Some of our significant others have high paying jobs and degrees, that unfortunately without French, would never get an equivalent job in Quebec. Their careers are important to them and, more often than not, make significantly more money than what Jazz pays their new F/Os. Remember, not everyone at Jazz is a single 24 year old "dude", that's cool living with 3 roommates and take the 747 bus to work every morning.
Some of us "older farts" actually have wives, husbands and children.
But if I were a single 24 year old, sure, Montreal would be a great place. Nice people, good looking women, great party atmosphere and French is not an issue.

Re: New hire bids
Is there any truth to the rumour that Jazz can't fill the new hire classes? This thread seems to point in that direction too. Wanted 20, but only got 12.

Re: New hire bids
I wouldn't be surprised given the current environment.
That said, the class that started June 5th has 20 in it.

A mile of road will take you a mile, but a mile of runway can take you anywhere
Re: New hire bids
Anybody get the inside scoop on the base/equipment from the June 5th class?
And to contribute to the GS class size, I'm pretty sure there's 14 for the June 19th course.

Re: New hire bids
There have been a bunch of classes that could not be filled(for reasons that have not been mentioned). I saw there was discussion at the last ALPA meeting on the topic. It very well could be that they are unable to attract candidates due to compensation.
I think many of those interested in going to AC are having doubts now that the PML v2.0 isn't a guarantee (far from it actually) and are waiting it out, while many others are staying at their other 704 and 705 jobs due to the initial pay. Its a pilots market right now. Sadly the operators are still thinking it's 1989...

Re: New hire bids
I agree with this 100%. I heard from friends at Porter (for example) that they are quite short on qualified pilots as well.Rowdy wrote:... Sadly the operators are still thinking it's 1989...
What are these managers thinking? Aviation is a dynamic industry and they're so resistant to change that, sometimes, it's hard to believe certain airlines (like Evas) are still operating.
It's not like this sprung up overnight...

Re: New hire bids
If Jazz can still afford to dole out PFO's, then they can't be hurting too badly for qualified candidates.

Re: New hire bids
Just an example of one company starting to struggle is Wasaya. They had a job posting looking for 44 pilots! That closed on the 7th of June. Those positions ranged from Caravan, to Dash 8.

Sometimes it's better to be understaffed than it is to hire the wrong person.Kosiw wrote:If Jazz can still afford to dole out PFO's, then they can't be hurting too badly for qualified candidates.

Re: New hire bids
I heard PasCo upped left seat pay on the 1900 and now you're able to make over 100k/yr.
Agreed. Especially with the fast upgrades, they have to hire people that can be a Captain in a year.goingnowherefast wrote:Sometimes it's better to be understaffed than it is to hire the wrong person.Kosiw wrote:If Jazz can still afford to dole out PFO's, then they can't be hurting too badly for qualified candidates.
