Unfortunately by far the most expensive crews rates in Canada.
Still sub 80$ in YYC, YYZ, YUL but the cheapest I’ve seen in YVR is over 150$.

Get a crash pad.
Hotels don't work in YVR unless you're super senior and only need it 2-3 times a month.

Don’t bother with crew rates they’re a joke. Hotwire is your friend.
Re: Cheap yvr hotels with shuttle
I stayed at the accent inn by the airport relatively recently for around 85. And I got a free rubber duck...

Disgusting Chinese run clandestine hotels, I’d rather drive 12 hours, sleep in my car and/or book off than sleep in one of these.
I haven’t commuted to YVR lately but I thought the crew rates for winter at the Accent Inn and the Sandmann signature YVR were still under 90$ a night and maybe something like 130 during peak summer season or is that gone ?
Some commercial YVR crash pad were garbage and expensive (BTW is that Eagle Nest still run by that batshit insane lady ?). If I were to be botl YVR based I’d try to find a cheap room and split it with a friend/coworker or even better, there used to be a lot of Facebook groups runned by aviation people - couple of decent options. I know a lot of Jazz employees would rent rooms and stuff, they just don’t advertised it openly, just ask around. If you have good looks you can also crash at your friendly Jazz FAs place.
In twenty years time when your kids ask how you got into flying you want to be able to say "work and determination" not "I just kept taking money from your grandparents for type ratings until someone was stupid enough to give me a job"

There was also a few guys doing the boat/RV thing ... not a bad idea as well.

For a couple years I had a GMC motorhome parked at the Templeton lot. That was ideal and total cost was under 5k a year including fuel for driving around Vancouver when I needed to.

Not sure what the policy is at Jazz for RVs in the lot. I never did see any. But at AC now there is at least a half dozen in the AC lot.
Accent inn in St Edwards drive had decent rates for a while. Worth calling.

The camping in the parking lot thing got nixed several years ago from what I’ve heard. No longer allowed. I’m sure some still do. Just have to be discreet. Camper van, not large Breaking Bad style motor home.

Go check out the AC lot sometime on the North Service Rd. There's no gate you can drive in and look around. Back corner last time I counted was 7 fairly large RV's or truck toppers. Just look at Google Maps... Satellite View. https://goo.gl/maps/gmfB2eBwKXrxHgp98
I know one guy at Jazz has a boat at the River Rock. Slip fee there is cheap like $500+- for basic services and has a shower, gym amenteties and easy access to the Skytrain and a Casino to blow all your per diems at.
Re: Cheap yvr hotels with shuttle
They nixed the Camper/RV/trailer thing at the jazz lot.
There was indeed a couple guys with Boats moored very close by.
Also lots of people doing the discreet airline crash pad/spare room thing if you look around..

Find someone who works at AC and doesn't own a car. Make friends with them and park at RV at the AC lot. Easy access via Templeton station.
Re: Cheap yvr hotels with shuttle
Devils advocate here. Posting in a public forum about parking a rv in the AC lot is the best way to screw anyone whom is already doing this. Yes it was banned and a few are still doing it. I assume they are turning a blind eye to it. However once more show up it will ruin ir for all.

Dude there's like a dozen RVs there. They are well aware and a few posts on a forum isn't going to make a difference.

Cab took a wrong turn to the Pacific Gateway on dead end Lysander Lane and there was a truck and camper parked there. Hmm... I wonder if that belongs to a pilot?
But seriously, you need to look up stealth vans.
