Airlines don’t give a 💩 about housing affordability when they decide base staffing levels. They also don’t like commuters but they fail to relate the two.

You have to look at "time zones" as well.

Also as an airline executive FA turnover is a good thing because it’s keeps staffing on the bottom pay levels. I’d imagine 3-4 years is perfect for how long they would want an FA to stay around

How far do you reckon upgrades will go in this equipment bid? 2019 hires?

I'd be surprised if we hear anything before mid-august.

Prob not until after the AC bid is my guess which has now been delayed until next week. They do all the crewing calculations together then AC sends what they need to Jazz.

I don’t think there is much doubt at AC about the summer commercial schedule for North America except perhaps some tweaking as between mainline metal (including Rouge) and Express aircraft.

I think that the International schedule may be subject to less certainty hence an evaluation of WB staffing requirements.

Honestly I do not expect a bid to be released until every recalled pilot is back on property (Aug 29). Cannot hold a bid if all your members are not “active”.

I’d expect Aug 30-31 at the earliest, sometime in September realistically.

But can they release the available positions before the 29th but close the bid after everyone's back? Inactives would need the access to the ESPB(I think) before the 29.

What do you mean by that. Vacancies and baseline numbers posted on the 23 and the actual award of positions in September? Or is end of September the final version of the bid with no more corrections?

Bid out "between the 23 and 31"

2 weeks to bid

2 weeks to process

Except if there is a mistake, results will be out between mid and late september

If there is a mistake, we have 2 weeks to report it.

1326 flying positions. Estimated to be approximately 90% of pre-COVID commercial schedule.

This represents full employment for active Jazz pilots as of Aug 29.

Rudder, does the 1326 flying positions mean "line pilots" (term you have used in previous posts on this subject) ?

Yes. Excludes inactive pilots (med leave/management/training department/LOA).

By way of comparison, the last Jazz equipment bid prior to COVID had 1300 flying positions. But it did NOT include the SKV E175 flying positions. SKV seniority list at time of consolidation was 283 but included management and training dept pilots and perhaps several LOA/med leave.

There are 328 E175 flying positions in the bid which is well beyond the SKV pilot totals when it was staffed separately.

The Jazz CBA and the CAR’s FTDT changes appear to have increased the staffing ratio. AC may also be planning increased utilization for the Express E175 fleet necessitating higher crewing levels.
