Oshkosh 2016 - July 25 to 31
Not sure what happened to PnF/Beef, but I guess I beat him to it this year. Perhaps Canadian attendance at Oshkosh will be somewhat curtailed by the ridiculous exchange rate, but I intend to attend this year still. It's simply too good an event to miss.
Here's some of the confirmed performers for the airshow part - Osh 2016 Performers
Although not in that list the Snowbirds are also scheduled to appear this year. And if you haven't been, the airshow is only a small part of the entire experience.
You owe it to yourself - just go already!!

I managed to get there a few years ago, and it is ,indeed, Mecca for any airplane nut. Nowhere else will you see so many and varied airplanes in one place.5x5 wrote:Not sure what happened to PnF/Beef, but I guess I beat him to it this year. I think Beef is no longer posting here but has gone to the "other " Forum
This will be my 22nd year in a row and I am already counting the days
Tickets are already available for sale
As usual I will apply for my vendor credentials on Mar 1st and they usually arrive around one month later
Yes , the weak Canadian dollar will be hard to take but hey it's the largest and the Greatest Airshow in the world so its hard to miss

Sorry for neglecting my duty here.
Last year I just did not feel like driving the distance.
We will see this year. More likely to go to the EAA fly in in the north west.
I will alert you here if we do.

Went last year, this year --- chalk me up to the low $$. (and the fact I had to pay for last year by taking the wife on a cruise last month)
Re: Oshkosh 2016 - July 25 to 31
Yup the low Canadian $$$ is hard to take but on the good side fuel prices are low so that helps counter the costs a little.jump154 wrote:Went last year, this year --- chalk me up to the low $$. (and the fact I had to pay for last year by taking the wife on a cruise last month)
Oshkosh can be relatively cheap if you plan accordingly.
Pretty much every evening some group is holding an outdoor event with food . Tickets are usually between $5-10
Breakfast on the field at the Ultralight area is also really good and cheap.
You could also cook your own meals
When I go, I always have one or two guys travelling with me and we take turns with fuel.
We also share the camping costs.
Another great way to offset costs is to gather up any old or used aircraft items /collectables that are laying around the hanger.
Bring them along and put them in the Aeromart .
Just register them and walk away , they do the rest . If your items sell , they will give you a receipt and send you a cheque.
One year I came home with $3800 us
Its surprising how low you can keep the costs if you put just a small bit of effort into it.

Someone was talking about an EAA event in Washington state I think, they said it was like AirVenture west. I can't even find a fly in in Washington this year so it must not be a very big deal. Maybe it is cancelled this year.
Obviously there is only one AirVenture. Even Sun and Fun is not quite as big.

Thank you. I guess I had trouble finding it because I thought it was an EAA event.
