The requirements for ATC are as follows:
-The weather must be VFR (at least 3SM and 1000')
-If the runways are dry, the max crosswind component on the restricted runway is 25 knots. There can be a tailwind component of up to 10 knots if accepted by the pilot
-If wet, braking action must be reported as good. The max crosswind component on the restricted runway is 15 knots and there can be no tailwind
-The runway pairs LAHSO can be applied to must be approved in unit direction. Most airports do not have approval for LAHSO on any runways

At my company we are forbidden to accept any LAHSO instructions.
Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business

Best bet if you are commercial, check your COM and SOPs for specifics.

Re: LAHSO
In my humble opinion, LASO is an American expression. In Canada, we called it Conflicting Runway Operations. Same thing
Calgary ATC sent a letter to all operators explaining the way things operate and they are supposed to have developed a computer program that could sequence airplanes very accurately so that an airplane landed behind another conflicting airplane so accurately that LASO or conflicting runway operations were not required. What was required and spelled out was that pilots were to listen up, pay attention and follow instructions as requested and follow them accurately.
The last few years I was flying I found it a bit unnerving for a while to be on approach below 1000 feet, cleared to land and see another airplane out the side window in almost the same position on a crossing runway but after many pleasant experiences, I became more appreciative of the skills of the controllers and the close cooperation of the pilots. It works well.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Re: LAHSO
Good old transport canada has it all figured out. ops spec 617 can be issued to foreign operators as long as the pilots figured out their landing distance, and in the same breath, they indicate that a lahso ops spec is not required for canadian operators.
WTF?
Did this job for 36 years. tc still has their head up their ass.

Ops Spec 617 applies to Canadian operators landing in countries other than Canada as far as I can tell. Unless you can prove me wrong I think TC has this one figured out and you might be the one with his head up his ass.confusedalot wrote:Good old transport canada has it all figured out. ops spec 617 can be issued to foreign operators as long as the pilots figured out their landing distance, and in the same breath, they indicate that a lahso ops spec is not required for canadian operators.

"The air operator is authorized to conduct Land and Hold Short Operations (LAHSO) outside of Canada,"

Re: LAHSO
Yup, read it again, yer right. issued to foreign operators, and issued to canadian operators so they can do LAHSO elsewhere outside of canada in order to secure a foreign ops spec, such as the FAA and elsewhere. No need for 617 for a canadian operator operating in canada to do LAHSO.
In canada, you just do it without 617 since it is primarily an atc procedure.
Rockie is beyond reproach in all areas and he will let you know it. You must be fun to work with. Mistakes will be punished with venom.

Purpose
The purpose of this AC is to provide Canadian air operators with information pertaining to
Operations Specification (OpSpec) 617. This OpSpec is issued by Transport Canada Civil
Aviation (TCCA) and is the basis for Canadian air operators to obtain Land and Hold Short
Operations (LAHSO) authorization from Foreign States.
What do you think confused?
Explain this...

No, I don't think you're stupid. The opposite I think because I see potential in your posts, I just don't think you are using your brain to your potential. A common ailment, but try and do better....

Are you implying that I have a brain? What if I am intellectually handicapped? What then? You know, like the rest of people you deal with dayin and day out.
Once again, retired and can't sleep, what's your excuse?

Re: LAHSO
Should be in the park mode now, I guess.
For the rest of the audience, you can legally do LAHSO in canada without any sort of authorization, according to TC. if your company says no, then it is no.
For those going crossborder anywhere, check out the 617 ops spec literature.
