Yes looks like hiring and upgrades are going to slow down significantly except for YVR base. Bid from Monday shows only about 50 new hire vacancies.

Very interesting development. Hopefully it means we will see aore steady stream of folks getting pulled to AC.

Those hoping for YYZ may be in for a wait. Overstaffed by 30+ captains.

Hi guys,

Any idea why Jazz starts to slow down its hiring?
As AC plans a GS of 30-40 every 3 weeks indefinitely, that seems a bit weird, that would mean more OTS for AC?

Cheers!

Don't read too much into the bid. It appears the numbers are off. I'd like a better look at how they forecast, because thus far, we seem to be constantly 'short' every month.

Attrition shows to be mostly from AC, even though we are losing people consistently to AT, SW and overseas now as well. I'd also like to see how they forecast retirement. Is it all based on everyone going to 65? By actual employees? or just the median age of the pilot group?

Me thinks there is some fuddling with numbers..

Good!

Let them be short. Maybe then they'll realize that paying peanuts in exchange for a tiny carrot at the end of a stick is a bad retention tool.

Seems like Jazz is going to be hiring up to 275 pilots next year, mostly Montréal based, see the link below (in French, couldn’t find the English version).

Jazz is doing a partnership with a French website Aeroemploi, they just posted a video (in French) promoting Jazz career. There’s also a live chat with Jazz recruiters on Jan 24.

Here’s the link to the video : https://www.facebook.com/aeroemploi/vid ... 438904386/

I have spoken to about 5 Jazz pilots (that have been there for under a year), that are actively looking for work elsewhere, including yours truly.

We’re all aware you’ve been trying to get out, you’ve stated that in numerous posts. Basically since you’ve started at Jazz, I bet airlines will be dying to get you on their roster! Good riddance!

Why is that? Why are people leaving Jazz? I thought from all the regionals it was the best one.

It is likely one of the better ones, but I think recent hires are realizing that the AC carrot isn’t as fresh as they thought. I suspect most of them didn’t need come to Jazz with the plan of spending a career here. With the light at the end of the tunnel appearing to get further away, they are taking advantage of the current hiring trends and heading to places like Sunwing and Transat.

It's SHIT, SHIT, SHIT and I can't wait to leave. In 10 years of aviation, I had to make a lot of sacrifices, I took many hard decisions to build my career, I never regretted any of them, no matter how difficult it was at times, anyone who worked up North, I'm sure can related. The only bad decision I ever made was joining Jazz. If you're a cadet or working in a shit job flying clamped out hoes or metros, then sure go Jazz, or whatever regional. If on the other hand, you had a well paid job, home every night or decent schedule then stay there and wait for the AC call. All of us post 2015 got conned. It was a pure bait and switch to provide cheap labour and when the smokes clear and the music stops, a lot of people still left standing will be very very upset.

So, I’m curious, did you get the PFO or not even get the invite?
Based on recent info, 122 forecasted to go over to AC, most of the PML1.0 are gone so these would be mostly post 2015 pilots going. I’m guessing those 100 or so pilots won’t feel like they were baited!
Also, feel free to take this the wrong way, if you feel Jazz is “SHIT, SHIT , SHIT” please don’t let the door hit you on the way out, your attitude is a cancer on moral and we could live without that.

Funny to think anyone with any time or experience in aviation thought they were getting something for free and/or a guarantee. I've been flying for 15 years and not once has anything been "given to me". The con/disappointment each of you are feeling is the fact you "believed" you were for sure getting something like Air Canada. Sure PML 1.0 was a decent deal, but common, even that people were PFO. I remember my initial day of hire at Jazz we asked about "FPML or PML 2.0" and we were told by Steve that they were working on one, but nothing was set in stone. Air Canada had to decide what to do. Yes of course the carrot was made to entice cheap labour to keep Jazz competitive against GGN and Sky. You didn't have to accept the job with Jazz if you didn't like the conditions, but we all did. Never once was anything in written given to me saying you're going to AC if you come to Jazz. Yes we all heard through the grape vine and the companies advertised a "flow through" but did they every tell you what exactly the conditions were?

We all (B Scale) made the choice to come here with the "hope" of a PML flow through but I sure wasn't handed anything saying it was a guarantee on my day of hire in March 2016.

Stop whining about what you're deserved in life, we aren't deserving of anything we don't work for. No one has a crystal ball on which decision are best. Please try and enjoy your time at Jazz cause otherwise you and the people around you are going to suffer and make this place worse off. If you hate it here, stop complaining and just leave to Sunwing or Transat. I don't want you at a company working next to me if you can't be at least pleasant about what you have or where you work. Life isn't easy, grow up.

Nice try (attacking me) there. If you were a bit more mature, you'd know that leaving one's job is not as easy, especially when that individual has responsibilities towards his or her family. I do admit that coming to Jazz was a mistake for me. I'm the only one to blame for that. It's not all doom and gloom, but certainly Jazz is not even close to what it once was or what it's advertised. If my posts have any purpose here is to show interested pilots that not everyone is thrilled about working here. Should the right opportunity arise and they decide to take me I'll be leaving ASAP.

With that being said, I wish you happiness and success, at Jazz or wherever you end up.

You got my respect KenoraPilot. You know that, since the early days when you gave me advice about Jazz etc. I must say I disagree with you in some ways. You say we "don't deserve anything we don't work for". Well, I'd like to know what type of "work" do you mean by that?

1. Is it that I didn't "work" hard enough to go to university / flight school and then pay back the student loans while having a part time job?
2. Is it that I didn't "work" hard enough when I was a rampie for 12 months? (often in temps below -40*C)
3. Is it that I didn't "work" hard enough when I spent years flying up North, doing constant 14 hour duty days, flying medevacs?
4. Is it that I didn't "work" hard enough when I got my left seat upgrade?
5. Is it that I didn't "work" hard enough when I did my initial / recurrent training(s) at Jazz?
6. Is it that I don't "work" hard enough when I'm flying on the line?
OR...
7. Is it that I don't "work" hard enough for to provide for my family?

When is that "work" supposed to get rewarded with a decent paying job? I personally feel that I have worked, am working and will continue to work hard. Nobody gave me shit when I came to this country. So if you think or suggest that some of us "feel entitled" or "feel the need to get things for free", then you are mistaken. I bet if you look at every single pilot on this form, every single one of us made enormous sacrifices to get where we are, and flying the flag (even for a regional carrier) should NEVER be a stepping stone. Don't forget that Air Ontario, Air Nova, etc were not stepping stone companies. They were, companies where one would spend his or her entire career. Jazz is that company... for those that have a different contract / pay than us...

Re: New hire bids

Post by KenoraPilot »

Hans, we all worked hard to get where we did. You and I had similar paths it seems through the slog and shit to get here. I guess what I mean is Jazz is a job & opportunity people have killed for for years. It seems like a route to get to Air Canada, and maybe not. All I'm saying is we'll never stop working ever....if we haven't realized by now that this industry is one the hardest/silliest/pain in the ass careers anyone could choose. "They" all told me its a tough slog once you start down the road of aviation (prior to PPL) and I sorta understood, but never really realized that every time you change jobs even laterally you often go backwards. This is the 9th company I've worked for and I guess I just get frustrated with people complaining about the job we have. We all knew the pay is garbage to start, gets a little better with the upgrade but still won't be the "dream". I don't believe Air Canada is the dream either (call me biased) but their working conditions ain't that shit hot either. The pay is better yes, but is the life style? Is flying an Airbus going to CUN or YWG overnights any better than YVR & YLW?

I think the real lesson and message should be:

"jazz is a great company to work for, but its no guarantee that it will lead to AC & to start (like any job) its going to be tough, but no tougher than flying a 206 or Navajo in Norman Wells or Fort Simpson. So if you decide to come here, realize there is a chance that you won't get past Jazz to AC on this route. If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea please consider other options because there are tons in this market. If you think Jazz is a decent place to hang your hat for your career if you don't make it to AC, then please come aboard."

What really chokes me up is the complaining about the conditions when they are clearly advertised. The working conditions and contract is available to anyone who asks. We all signed on to those conditions so please make the best of it if it doesn't turn out the way you want it. Its painful to go to work and to listen to people bashing the job I enjoy. I know I am not everyone, I am probably quite rare in my thinking that I am ok doing YQU, YMM and YEG overnights in a DH8 for the rest of my career but that's me. Please just don't make it out like Jazz did you personal harm and tricked you into working here. We ALL knew the conditions and that AC WAS NOT A SURE THING.

This doesn't negate the fact that the working conditions SHOULD be better, but this is Aviation in Canada bud. We pilots generally race ourselves to the bottom and allow the companies to take advantage of us. This is the show, we can't change it now, but over time hopefully with POSITIVE action we can. But nothing happens fast as I've learnt.

I wish you and all those who feel wronged by Jazz the best, and I know Transat and SWG are gagging for pilots. Canada Jetlines is starting up soon.I hope those jobs will make you much happier and luckily in todays market there are more and more options!

Anyone who talks to me or sends me a message will get the real truth on take home pay, conditions and my biases. I am biased as shit, who isn't. But I'll tell you how I see it and my opinion because that is all I can offer.

Cheers
KP
