Ground schools will be running into the new year. You can expect hiring for all types 330/310/737/320. We'll all be flying the bus family within a few years.

737 is great if you like turns and being home more often than not. Airbus if you like jet lag ;)

It's a great place to work many of us hope to retire here!

Cheers

This is all great feed back guys, thanks. Are their French speaking preferences a little more relaxed for a Toronto position? I know enough French to get by, but not enough to engage in conversation.

From what I have heard, ground schools are in October, November and December. 10 spots in each. Yyz based is what it sounds like. The A321s are to replace the A310s. Thats a couple years yet though. The french pilots will speak english if you only speak english and they will tend to speak french if both crew members can speak french. If you can only speak english it you'll be fine. Thats about all I know since I don't actually work there ;P

Has anyone gotten a call from this last ad? If so, when did you apply and what kind of experience do you have?

How does fleet selection usually happen?

Do you know what you're being hired onto, is there a seniority draw like AC and then you pick from available types?

How many years for upgrade at the moment? Is there matrix for upgrade? Or seniority based?

Thanks

Pretty sure management decides based on requirements and experience. Seniority in a class is based on an experience matrix.

Upgrade is minimum 5000 hours, seniority based and sitting at 3-4 years right now.

I'll dispel any concerns about being a non french speaker.

I'm an Anglo with poor french language skills (they have improved considerably since I started here) I can rattle off a PA and crack a few jokes en francais.

Been here 6 years and its never been an issue, everyone is really chill about it. There was a time when TS preferred to hire french speakers but there are loads of us Anglos on the property some even in management and training positions. As long as you're open to learning some french and don't mind it being spoken around you, you'll be fine. its been a lot of fun!

Cheers

Could someone please explain how the bond is? It is 3 year yes? No pro rated? How much is it for?
Is it true they only want you to pay it back if you use they type rating at another company?

Same type + same seat = bonds apply

Ex: You’re FO737 and you move to Sunwing on the right seat... you pay the bond.

You’re FO737 and manage to get a DEC captain at another company...no bond.

Hi

Are they Hiring FO s on the 737 NG now? Would like to know if they would consider 2300 plus TT, B 737 NG type (0 hours), ATPL, 2000 hrs plus transport category Turboprop.

Any insights would be much appreciated.

I got the type done along with my FAA ATPL checkride. The new requirements for FAA ATP requires one to train in a certain category sim before writing the written exam. I opted to do the type on the 737 NG as well because of the package offered at that time.

Of course, it only takes a few minutes for a self-appointed member of AvCanada's type rating Gestapo to appear.

Just talked to a friend of mine who is as old as I am at big red. Not a management type mind you, but pretty close. He tells me that big red is poaching pilots anyplace they can, and that would include transat. Not confirmed, but sounds they just took 20 transat drivers in a blink of an eye. suspect they will keep doing that sort of thing to fill their 2 groundschools of 40 people each for what is now the foreseeable future.. They are doing the same thing with Westjet, but in a bigger way.

So as far as transat is concerned, expect lots of hiring to replace people who are leaving. Talk about the klondike gold rush and stepping stones........
