Says an ultralight helicopter in the article. I didn't know there was a category for that? Do they mean a homebuilt helicopter or perhaps a gyro?
Anyone hear more?

Sad. I knew John, although not well. He was a smart guy, big in to innovation. He didn’t live far from me.

We have one on the field here in Vernon. I'd like to fly it, but it's single seat... (;>0)
Re: Helicopter Crash - Near Calgary
Was reading a somewhat older EAA magazine today about a nice homebuilt helicopter which mentioned this accident. Looked it up and found this thread. According to the TSB, it was due to a wire strike.......

Investigation reveals cause of fatal Alberta helicopter crash
CALGARY—A July helicopter crash that killed an Alberta pilot and designer happened after the amateur-built aircraft hit a power line, says a Transportation Safety Board investigation.
John Uptigrove was the pilot flying the ultralight Mosquito XE helicopter that crashed northeast of Okotoks, Alta., on July 15, his business partner Dwight Junkin said at the time.
The Transportation Safety Board says Uptigrove’s helicopter crashed along the Highwood River after hitting a power line 75 feet in the air. The helicopter was destroyed in the crash.
Uptigrove, 54, was an experienced engineer and pilot. His company, Innovator Technologies, designed a line of Mosquito helicopters and Junkin’s company produced and distributed the parts and kits for owners to build their own
