Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
So what’s the captain pay?
Pilot jobs network shows year 1 CA pay at $80/hr topping out at $125 in year 5. Top Fo pay is shown at $75/hr? Is that accurate? If so how do senior FOs make $130-150k as a previous poster said?

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
The short story:
Year 1 Capt: $103.57 currently, $107.76 in 2019
Year 2 Capt: $119.50 currently, $124.33 in 2019
Year 12 Capt: $195.02 currently, $202.90 in 2019
Note: All internal upgrades with at least 2 years of service at Sunwing start at the Year 2 Captain salary
Year 1 F/O: $55.53 currently, $58.08 in 2019
Year 2 F/O: $69.62 currently, $72.43 in 2019.
Year 10 F/O: $99.14 currently, $105.21 in 2019
Minimum paid is 1000 Hours per year.
Add in a 6 month deployment, per-diems, natural block growth and a little overtime here and there, it is possible to break $100,000 in your first year at Sunwing as an F/O.
In your second year as an F/O, a 3 month deployment, per-diems, natural block growth and some overtime should get you over $100,000.
Deployments went senior this year, so most new F/O's are just getting their base salary, per-diems and what little overtime is available. Without deploying or overtime, I'd budget that gross pay for a Year 1 F/O around $60000.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
So what could a new DEC expect pay wise?
Are hours flown on GDOs paid in addition to your monthly guarantee?
Is there much opportunity for GDO flying?
Are DECs likely to be forced on European assignments? That'd be hard to do with school age kids unless it was July and August only.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Most of the answers are in my post above
Year 1 Capt: $103.57 currently, $107.76 in 2019. That's $103,570 per year + per-diems.
Yes, at 2 times your hourly rate.Joe Blow Schmo wrote: ↑Sat Sep 01, 2018 10:46 pm Are hours flown on GDOs paid in addition to your monthly guarantee?
Not much for junior Capt's or F/O's.
Deployments went senior this year. It's been a few years since anyone has been forced to go overseas.Joe Blow Schmo wrote: ↑Sat Sep 01, 2018 10:46 pm Are DECs likely to be forced on European assignments?
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
I'm a 2500 hour pilot with an ATPL, B737-400/500 type rating (780 hours), 90% 705 time and low PIC (170 hours the rest PICUS).
I've had my application in for over 2 months and haven't heard anything, what gives? Does anyone familiar know if they are backlogged with applications?

Did you have an internal recommendation or just apply online?fletcher wrote: ↑Sun Sep 02, 2018 5:39 pm I'm a 2500 hour pilot with an ATPL, B737-400/500 type rating (780 hours), 90% 705 time and low PIC (170 hours the rest PICUS).

Sunwing places a high value on internal recommendations, so if you’re just applying off the street as a general applicant, it may be a while before they get to you.
As well, the experience of applicants has gone up, so your low hours might be holding you back. The online ad specifies 3000 hours I think. It seems most new people I’ve talked to have at least some 704/705 captain time, or lots of 705 F/O time. My class last year had 704/705 Captains and F/O’s, and the lowest time guy had over 3000 hours. Most of us were 5000+ hours.
I’ve heard rumour of two more courses in late October and early December, but don’t quote me on that. Interviews are ongoing too I think.
Don’t give up hope yet!
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Okay, good to know! Thanks for the info. I do have an internal recommend but it sounds like they’re taking more higher time people than I thought. Cheers!
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Anyone knows if calls have gone out for the October GS ?
In twenty years time when your kids ask how you got into flying you want to be able to say "work and determination" not "I just kept taking money from your grandparents for type ratings until someone was stupid enough to give me a job"
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Last week I received a call for a course on November 19...I accepted. I could have had something sooner (as in October) but I couldn't free myself from my current employer. This was just a call to tell me i was slotted in. An official offer will come in October.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
TranquilityBase , how many time between the interview and the call?
I've received a mail from the HR the first week of August, telling me I've been successful through the first phase, but they didn't call my reference and no news til this time. I start to think that's not going well.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Strangely I got the same. Interview in the middle of July (edit), got the letter. Reference checks done and haven't heard anything for almost two months. Couple of emails asking for status have gone unanswered. Makes me wondermollok wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 12:21 pm TranquilityBase , how many time between the interview and the call?

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Lots of guys are waiting for the phone call ... I've heard of a guy couple of years ago waited 1.5 years before the call so if you've interviewed in July/Aug it's still not that bad of a wait. I'd suppose they want the direct entry guys and those with jet time in as soon as possible.
Good luck to everyone.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
I've been told that hiring is done for the year, as in the company knows who they want in the remaining 2 or 3 courses. However, the calls for groundschools typically go out a month in advance. So although it's already known internally who will be offered a December or January groundschool, the actual candidates probably don't know yet. They should expect a call in the next month or so.
Just because you haven't heard anything, don't assume it's bad news!

Good to hear, though the process is a little fuatrating if you have a couple of offers on the table and Sunwing is your first choice.DHC-1 Jockey wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 6:18 pm I've been told that hiring is done for the year, as in the company knows who they want in the remaining 2 or 3 courses. Unfortunately other companies aren't happy to wait three months for a yes from a candidate...!
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
I've just received a mail from the HR telling me that they concluded filling all their Groundschool for 2018, and they will keep my file for the next 12 months....
Game over!!!
Game over!!!
