*everyone runs to the boarding line*

Every damn time.
And why is that - because no one wants to stow carry on under the seat in front (especially in commuter a/c) and now everyone has carry on -- air travel has turned into sadistic torture :wallbash:

Here is her response to my query:

Thanks for your email. We published the story because a member of the public came forward and felt unsafe. Regardless of how common an occurrence is, we believed it was worthy of publication due to the man's perspective. I contacted the airport, TSB and WestJet, two of which are in the story.

In order for the story to be sensational, I would have had to sacrifice accuracy in order to try and garner attention by using misleading language. I did not do that. There are three voices in my piece, two of which say that the event does not qualify as an "incident." That's very clear in my article.

So if I as a member of the public comes forward and tell them I felt unsafe and almost died driving on my way to work, are they going to publish?

No kidding. I was driving on the 400 home from up north the other day. Narrow construction lanes. Heavy trucks. Manic cottage drivers.

I'll take a go around anytime.

I am a member of the public. And while this news article made me feel unsafe,

Until I read the words from a safety expert, I had no idea I was cheating death every time we went missed. I think , as pilots, and pax, we all owe the famed passenger, and the great news reporter a big thank you.

Will I fly again? Maybe? If I can just start feeling safe again.

Thank you Emily...You are a credit to your profession

Hooray for creative writing classes. Word for word the first paragraph of the response she sent to me.

Hooray for all the wannabe social justice warriors like Mr. Short fighting battles that don't need to be fought because there isn't a battle to fight (on behalf of his fellow passengers).

So what's the over/under betting line on how many responses went out her door with that same first paragraph cut and pasted?

I was thinking about this as I walked airside today, watching where I was going. A truck was backing up, and I was not certain that the driver had seen me, so I stopped, and took a step back, so the truck could pass. I was nearly run over! Except that I wasn't, because I paid attention, and remained clear of the danger area. The fine line between life and death! If I have time later, I'll write the CBC about it!

I wonder where the second plane was?

Did the passenger get confused about why they went around or did the pilot think it was better to lie about the reason or was it poor reporting by the tower?

Altiplano.

Maybe ask the safety expert who felt unsafe. Or the reporter that made this a newsworthy incident.

due to a flap indication
Maybe the flaps indicated were on the other aircraft? No idea, just taking this as seriously as it should be taken - not at all!

So this morning I find the story to show it to someone, and I see it has been edited slightly to downplay the non-event somewhat.
Interesting is that the story is originally posted September 3 and says "last updated" September 3 as well. Not true. It was updated at least a day or two later. Minor point but they underscore a badly researched piece of yellow journalism.

Well... nice sentiment I suppose, but I'm not sure it helped much...

I have never found myself:
rescinding the landing gear
But I suppose I have things to learn as a pilot....

Retracting = rescinding

Autocorrect is unwise for professional journalists, but let's cut the kid a break.
