How can I rent a plane if I'm under 18?
I am a 17 year old based in GTA, with valid PPL and IFR rating. I am hoping to give my friend a ride to his parents' place. Is it possible for me to rent a plane? What if my parents sign the rental agreement for me? It would be great if they can do it remotely since they live in China.

You had to rent planes to get your ppl. It's no different now.

Yeah. This thread is odd... If you're a licensed pilot, you should be able to rent a plane, given that you've passed a Check Ride.

I got my PPL when I was 17 and regularly rented airplanes. Ironically it would be another 8 years before I could rent a car.

Call a local school and find out what they require.
Probably a checkout and then you can rent.

I had no problems renting planes at my flight school, but I have moved to a new place since and thought things might be different. Thanks for the information.HansDietrich wrote: ↑Wed Dec 26, 2018 7:37 pm Yeah. This thread is odd... You will require a checkout, but that is likely all.

Don't even bring up your age. Just walk in and say, "I want to rent a plane."

this...
Good judgment comes from experience. Experience often comes from bad judgment.

Probably good advice. The last flight school I rented from - I walked in, went out for a 30 min check flight and left with their airplane. No one even asked to see my license!

Surprised you would even have a problem.
Got my private one month after 17.
Did not fly for 6 months since I was in college, so at 17.5 figured I would break the boredom and rent a plane.
Did 10 minutes with an instructor, and poof, took the plane and did a mini cross country sightseeing flight.
Best flight I ever did, the 19000 hours after that in planes large and small all over the world never came close to that Cessna trip.
That was 42 years ago.

What does "this..." mean. Are you saying to do this? Or not do this?

To Paraphrase "I did it 42 years ago, it was easy. Why would it be any harder today?".confusedalot wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 8:10 pm Surprised you would even have a problem.

I've always found this to be kind of strange. Used to rent airplanes all the time years before HERTZ would give me the time of day.Big Pistons Forever wrote: ↑Wed Dec 26, 2018 7:55 pm I got my PPL when I was 17 and regularly rented airplanes. Yes. I used to work for a rental car agency and I couldn’t rent any of them as an 18/19 year old with no credit card.
Funny thing was, every month or so they’d fill a 15 passenger van to drive us down to SeaTac to hike back all of the one-ways to YVR. It was like Cannonball Run on the I-5.
I was renting planes a couple years later.

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
