Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
My username is unintentionally misleading. I’ve had it since flight training with aspirations of joining the military. No actual military experience.Gonzodriver wrote: ↑Fri Feb 15, 2019 8:10 amCongrats.FighterPilot wrote: ↑Thu Feb 14, 2019 1:34 pm Just got the call today for March start.

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Latest course was 50% Express (mostly Jazz). The rest was the usual split of WestJet, Military, Ex-pat, Porter, Sunwing, and Transat.

First applied 2017. Received confirmation.
Updated application a few months ago but no word still or are they just behind applications.
4000hrs / 705 MPIC / Training
Should I resubmit application with their new portal or is it the same and just a new layout?
Do you have post secondary? I know tons of 705 Captains with lots of time and work in training who haven’t heard a thing because they have no post secondary. AC is not currently interviewing OTS applicants who don’t have post secondary. I’ve seen them hire FO’a with no PIC time (other then the bare minimum you need for your ATPL) that have a degree etc... Unfortunetly experience is not what they value most right now.
My advice to anyone who is dead set on AC is to get some kind of post secondary education or go to an Express carrier. Lots of guys from there being hired with just high school and a couple years punched at an Express carrier.
Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I'll echo that.
If you didn't finish your degree, or took a half baked community college course that went nowhere, put it on your resume 2 years undergrad studies at U of Wherever... or 1 year Local Tech Burnout Academy with honours... whatever, you can explain it in the room why you didn't finish, or why it's a work in progress... but it will possibly help get you in the room...
If you have nothing remotely post secondary, take a night school or correspondence university credit course... maybe in beginners French and tick that box off too... it's all in the points and while total time, PIC, and big airplanes all score, it's only a part of what they are looking at... we can argue whether that's right or not but it makes no difference... it is what it is...
I'm not even sure they are looking at it until it gets picked out by the system either... I suspect some HR AI program is picking out the applicants with the right credentials and buzz words from the other few thousand applicants, and then sending you on to the person who weeds through it from there...

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
You can always sign up for online university courses and quit them after you get hired. A social justice or gender studies course will really get the HR ladies attention.

They hired a guy I worked with in January with no completed post secondary. But I have heard it's really important right now.landsky wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:46 pmVanguard,Vanguard wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2019 2:37 am Question

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Hello,
Query:
I applied in Oct’17, OTS. Received mail confirmation.
Keep updating my application. Current experience 6500 hrs with 6000 hrs on Jet aircraft, 705 , University degree in Aviation BUT NO PIC experience. I am under Command upgrade now.
I haven’t received any interview call from AC.
Is it because of NO PIC hours experience ?
Thanks in advance

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
I'd guess that the lack of PIC, and lack of diversity in your background might be part of it.IFLY81 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 9:03 am Hello,

6000+ hours without an upgrade is possibly a red flag.
Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
Thanks. I am under upgrade training now. Should I mention this in application ?

Re: The Air Canada OTS thread
It's a points system and PIC over 12500 lbs is one of the points categories. Or was when I applied. Being in upgrade training now might look good to a human but at your point a human probably isn't looking at your application yet.
