best/quickest FTU Ontario for class 4 instructor renewal
Trying to find out the quickest/best FTU in the Southern Ontario region to renew a class 4 flight instructor rating.
Thanks and hope to hear from others in my position.

Which one do you want, quickest or best?
Re: best/quickest FTU Ontario for class 4 instructor renewal
Doesn’t matter
Re: best/quickest FTU Ontario for class 4 instructor renewal
It looks like only a few are training for the instructor rating,, Kitchener, Brampton, brantford and with the first two you’re looking at a long wait.

Or freelance, start the same day possibly, finish in less than 8 weeks and pay 60% of the cost of a flight school. This is a for a full instructor rating.

Why don’t you call around and ask? Since it is just a renewal, shouldn’t be tough to find without taking longer than a couple of weeks to book an examiner. A renewal and initial are two different endorsements - many examiners hold the former and not the latter. As an example, the Cornwall examiner can do renewals but not test initials. Cornwall typically books same week.

Whose aircraft could you use?
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.
Re: best/quickest FTU Ontario for class 4 instructor renewal
I know someone who recently completed their instructor rating for $6400 in total from start to finish all costs in. This was freelance with block time on a Cessna 150.Aviatard wrote: ↑Sat Oct 05, 2019 5:10 am Sounds great. I'm curious how you calculated the 60% figure. Is that just for the instructor rate? Spectrum's rate is $90 / hour. Freelance class 1 instructors charging $54 per hour seems rather low. Then the student needs to get an airplane somehow, and to figure the cost of that in.
At Spectrum, the airplane dual itself costs at least $5500. Throw on the Private Career College Fee and you're at $5900. I'll give you the benefit of 25 hours of ground school at 2250 and flight test of 400 plus 150 airplane. $8750 with absolute minimum everything, the Instructor charging ZERO for pre-flight briefings and the ground school taking 25 hours instead of the roughly maybe 30 average. On average the student will probably end up paying at a flight school, or Spectrum , closer to $10 050.
So my actual number of $6400 compared to the projected real cost of $10 050. For simplicity sake lets call it 64%. I stand corrected.
Out of curiosity what is the hourly rate for Class 1s these days at ZBA?
I know a few people with block time on Cessna 150s, 172s or Piper Cherokees.

Ah! You mean its cheaper with YOU!
If you want to advertise to the OP, don't be coy about it, just do it openly, ok?

Re: best/quickest FTU Ontario for class 4 instructor renewal
I do not sell block time on any of those aircraft.
I have already PM'd the OP with details to help him a few days ago.
I should have reformatted my question, how much do you make per hour as a Class 1 at Spectrum? Out of the 90 dollars the flight school charges, how much is the flight school paying you?Aviatard wrote:
Since you've pumped out 30 instructors, is there any way you can go and find out the average cost your students have spent on their ratings with you? I'm using real world numbers and maybe you can offer concrete figures based on your experience.
For myself, I charge $60 an hour when I freelance with additional fees on top of that.
