Re: Air Canada staff will no longer greet 'ladies and gentlemen' onboard planes
Mind boggling. With all of the challenges we have in this world, this seems like a ridiculously stupid hill to die on.
Re: Air Canada staff will no longer greet 'ladies and gentlemen' onboard planes
Who exactly does ladies and gentlemen exclude? If you are a transgender woman would you not want to be called lady? Same for a transgender man. Please someone fill me in since I think I'm getting old and out of touch with society.

I think we're all rather confused, fortunately not as confused as Air Canada managment regarding this change though.

I'm not the best with reading all the fluff the company puts out either...
But I haven't seen squat on directives from anyone at the company telling me what I have to say or not say.
I've only seen a new story...
Perhaps someone more interested in it all than me can post the bulletin# for reference.

No flight ops bulletins yet...apparently in flight have had one come out, but I haven't seen it personally.
Victory, a small percentage of the population identify as "non-binary"..personally, I'm not in the know enough to explain it.
I don't believe in changing specific laws to force people to use certain pronouns, etc, as that opens an entirely different can of worms..but if it helps a small percentage of people through their day, why not? A little empathy goes a long way.
It sounds kinda awkward, and maybe it's not very grammatically correct..but if the company wants me to say it on the PA, that's fine.

Thank you. I've googled it and am now up on non-binary and genderqueer peoples. Now I get what the Q stands for in LGBTQ2 stands for. Don't ask me about the 2 though.dashtrash1 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 5:11 pm Victory, a small percentage of the population identify as "non-binary"..personally, I'm not in the know enough to explain it.

“Good morning folks” covers it all. Making mountains out of mole hills. Fact of the matter is, in this day and age there are very few ladies and gentlemen travelling anymore.

DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.
Re: Air Canada staff will no longer greet 'ladies and gentlemen' onboard planes
The last few times i've flown commercially it's been apparent that there are a scant few "ladies" or "gentlemen" passengers on the flights anyway.
Mind you, with some of the comments on this thread, it seems there are scant few in the cockpit either.

People certainly have a right to an opinion AirFrame, just because they don't agree with whatever yours is, doesn't make them uncouth.
People might feel this way or that way, or another way as far as their expression goes. That's the great thing about where we live, they can, you be you.
But is it not true that everyone was born with either one or the other? Or possibly has/is trying get one or the other.
People may feel like anything their imagination desires, and that's their thing, they are entitled to it, and good for them.
But biologically we're all just vaginas and penises and it seems ladies and gentlemen is just a friendlier way to put it which is long rooted in our language. Having problems with how someone greets a large group of people on an announcement that most don't even listen to is ridiculous.
Why aren't advocates for PC culture in the West taking action dealing with countries where there are actual real human rights problems? Like countries where LGBT = a death sentence? Instead we nitpick the places with the most progressive policies and cultures in the world.
Standing by for next virtue project on land acknowledgments for take off, over fly, and landing.

No, the non-binary people feel they are neither male nor female. That's what this is catering to I think.
Re: Air Canada staff will no longer greet 'ladies and gentlemen' onboard planes
They are entitled to feel that way, but do they have a vagina or penis?
Re: Air Canada staff will no longer greet 'ladies and gentlemen' onboard planes
Don't do a google image search unless you want to be very traumatized.

There's nothing quite like a bunch of people who have no idea what it's like to feel excluded passing judgement on those who would dare to express such feelings.

Pat... It's time for androgyny... it's Pat!
"Ladies, Gentleman, and Pat"

Wrong. The Schere campaign is the one flying with AC, not Trudeau.FICU wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2019 1:08 pmAir Canada is a supporter of the Liberal Party...schnitzel2k3 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 11:47 am I think we're all rather confused, fortunately not as confused as Air Canada managment regarding this change though.
