Who failed an interview?

Post by frog »

and why?

I did. I froze over the question: speak about yourself...at least I think that is the reason why...

I personally know a couple of guys who have blown interviews. Don't be too hard on yourself as every interview is a learning process in it's self. The people I knew that blew interviews with small regional carriers are now working at the majors.

Every time I think I did bad in an interview I always get the job. Twice I thought I had the job I didn't get it.

I figured out some time ago you don't talk your way into a job you talk your way out of one.

I know of a few great drivers that didn't (for whatever reason) get the job. It's the companies loss. All you can do is be honest with yourself, look for the faults and learn from them. Also, don't be to hard on yourself.
Shit happens... And I assume for a reason.

Cheers.

Years ago I blew an interview for a great job, because I was an idiot and started badmouthing a former boss. Yeah the guy was a complete jerk, but I should have kept it under my hat and said something like, "I quit that job because I wanted a bit more of a challenge."

Live and learn.

Most of the time, when you dont get the job, it dosen't mean you "failed" the interview. There may be only one position, and somebody else has something you dont? Like the aforementioned PPC! That'll do it. But you didn't FAIL. You just didn't get that job! And, you cant help but learn something from an interview. Even if you dumped all over your former boss...that's not "failing" an interview...that's just phuqueing it up! It's harder (I think) to interview for a job you REALLY want, than one you dont GARA about?

I am afraid this is true!
It is very easy to get a job I don't really care about, but as soon as I am interested...I am very nervous...

Don't feel too bad it can happen to anyone. Anyways, what kind of stupid question is: "Speak about yourself".

Not to come off sounding harsh, but isn't this typically the first question and most commonly asked in an interview?

It might be, but it was the first time this question was asked to me. Now I am ready to answer it.
To tell you the truth it was my first formal interview...

beat this one

Post by lowandslow »

Okay beat this one,
went to my first small twin operation interview years ago for a ramp/fo position, had no idea what to expect.. practiced the obvious questions like what are your weaknesses and strengths..etc.. well one of the prickier ones asking questions asked me what I would do if a senior captain smelled like booze and wanted to take off in an unsafe airplane. Well, with my 2 hours of mutli crew time experience I made it clear that I would tell him that I didn't think this was a good idea and that we shouldn't be flying. Then Pricky says the Capt. tells you to shove it and turns to the passengers and yells "hang on". Again, using all my multi crew experience I had at the time, I restate that I would make it abundantly clear that this wasn't a good idea, yada, yada, yada. Less Pricky tries to say "good" to me, but then Pricky won't let this go, continuing for some time until he finally says, "So are you going to let him take off or what?" To which after about 10 mins of hounding I finally break and reply,
"Is this Capt the same size as you ?(This is me pointing at Pricky), "because if he is, I would knock him out."

 Probably not the answer he was looking for.....
And no I didn't get the job. :(
Been single crew ever since... :D

Oh I've failed several. I was asked "why should we give you the job" which I took offence to and responded with "actually I don't really give a shit whether you give me the job or not" and during an interview for a city float gig I was asked if I was able to look more presentable and I told them "nope. This is as good as it gets."
I suck at interviews and for that reason I will spend my life moving from shithole to shithole flogging around in sketchy floatplanes.
