Academics in the UK figured that the actual number of cases was around 1,700; rather than the much lower "confirmed" number the authorities had initially published (something like 300). This estimate was released prior to todays announcement that the disease has been confirmed in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen - which of course means human to human spread is now an issue. Of course, the cases in South Korea, Thailand and Japan are also concerning...
One can only wonder how this coronavirus will behave as infection rates increase - thus far the "confirmed" fatality rate is extremely low, but that can change quickly. Pneumonia being a rather nasty thing to kick, the old man's friend as they say.

And now it is truly international, with the first confirmed case in the US - pax travelled from China to Seattle; sought treatment on the 15th, and confirmed as the new virus as of the 20th.
