Well, I like to think the glass is still half full, but you are assuming people have any money at all to do such things. I hope they do.

I think like you( glass half full). Summer is here officially in another 3 months, I am willing to wager there will be some stability by then, we are not dealing with Black Plague.
Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze
Nothing is going back to normal. Trudeau has officially killed the economy and it is not coming back anytime soon.
Re: WestJet Group Hiring Freeze
How is it that Trudeau killed the economy?
I’m a PC voter and supporter but please provide an example of what any government could do or have done differently that would have prevented the ensuing contraction, please!

Some have not been through similar or worse events in their lives. Possibly they have not experienced much adversity in life. That's nice for them; little do they know adversity is part of maturation process. Much worse has happened before and more will likely happen again, but life goes on! After all, it's not just about "surviving" this or other events, but more importantly doing it with some level of composure, character, and humanity.
The world has witnessed a lot of worse and the governments have a lot more at their disposal to stimulate the economy. The best remedy for the economy really is people living their lives normally and doing regular commerce. That will happen once the situation is stabilized. In the meantime, some forbearance is needed and one and all must go on as best we can.

Wow, I didn't realize Trudeau was so powerful. Apparently he has shut down Asia, Europe, South America and the USA in addition to screwing Canada. I always thought Prime Minister of Canada was just a bit player on the world stage, didn't realize he was in control of all the big places.....

Google recession early ‘80s and you will get an answer. I started in the late 70's, missed everything, got work flying in 1983, and left life as a commercial pilot just as air canada started 3 years of layoffs in 1990. I would only say this: you have to suck it up and work wherever you can. Oh and train in something else that makes real money. You can always go back flying later. But that was just me.

Plenty of '47s would be in YQX those days as plenty of fuel, cheaper it was said and quick turnarounds. It was also said it was cost effective to tanker fuel from YQX(Gander NL) in the heavy types. Funny year that was with the Arab Israel shooting match.tsgas wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 12:36 pmGo back to May 1973 during the Arab oil embargo , when the majority of B-747's World wide were grounded.Old fella wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 11:37 amGoogle recession early ‘80s and you will get an answer. You might be talking about the 1975 oil crisis. In 1973 the "PRICE" shock was the issue . A barrel of oil went up so high as to make flying uneconomical for WB acft.Old fella wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 5:04 pmPlenty of '47s would be in YQX those days as plenty of fuel, cheaper it was said and quick turnarounds. No, the oil embargo of ‘73 by OPEC and other members against the US and other industrial nations for supporting Israel during that war. I believe a barrel of crude was around $2-3 but shot up close to $12-15 ,it hit US hard resulting in rationing, massive lineups. 1975 also had issues as well. Always issues with oil , gluts, restrictions and everything in between.tsgas wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 5:25 pmYou might be talking about the 1975 oil crisis. In 1973 the "PRICE" shock was the issue . Wow, how did Trudeau kill the economy? Well he killed it, knocked it on it's head, kicked it in the balls, whatever euphemism you like. Don't believe I said he had anything to do with the rest of the world but suit yourself. You do not put a full stop on everything and actually believe things will just pop back to normal once everyone comes to their senses and crawls back to work. Yes I have been through all the mentioned crisis before this, all the oil shocks. Nobody, at any time, said everybody stay home. We simply got on with it. Some people took big hits. So it goes. But, apparently, we are "woke" these days and we will wait out whatever it is at home. What a farce. How pitiful this country has become. Good luck everybody. Oh , and seeing as how it seems to have turned into an oil thread, oil will be back with a vengeance. But Canada will not be participating. See above.

Any chance that’s because oil shocks and pandemics require different responses? Hard to get on with it if you or your loved ones are in the ICU or dead.palebird wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 9:25 pmYes I have been through all the mentioned crisis before this, all the oil shocks. Here is an excellent explanation of exponential growth as it pertains to virus’s like COVID-19:

I agree. Everything isn’t going back to normal if this lasts for more than a quarter. On the other hand. The Spanish flu was 1918. Spread by everyone coming home from war.palebird wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 9:25 pm Wow, how did Trudeau kill the economy? According to Wikipedia.
The Spanish flu, also known as the 1918 flu pandemic,[1] was an unusually deadly influenza pandemic. Lasting from January 1918 through December 1920, it infected 500 million people—about a quarter of the world's population.[2] The death toll is estimated to have been anywhere from 17 million[3] to 50 million, and possibly as high as 100 million, making it one of the deadliest epidemics in human history.
Governments didn’t respond to early sighs of the virus because.
To maintain morale, World War I censors minimized early reports of illness and mortality in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States.[6] Papers were free to report the epidemic's effects in neutral Spain, such as the grave illness of King Alfonso XIII, and these stories created a false impression of Spain as especially hard hit.[7] This gave rise to the pandemic's nickname, "Spanish flu".[8][9] Historical and epidemiological data are inadequate to identify with certainty the pandemic's geographic origin.[2
BUT
The roaring 20’s followed.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roaring_Twenties
We will recover. It just won’t look the same after.
Mexico is taking your position.
https://time.com/5807102/mexico-coronav ... trictions/
We will see how it works for them. There are almost no cases in Mexico. On the other hand hardly any testing.
The reason for no action? Mexico believes they can’t afford to stop tourism as it is a huge part of the economy.
We may watch a humanitarian disaster as their tourism industry dries up anyway. Chaos ensues.
Hopefully not. For their sake I hope your right.
But this is exactly what would happen in Canada if we did nothing. Everything would be normal for another couple of weeks to a month. Then all hell would break loose and planes would be empty anyway. People would be stranded all over the world. Hospitals would get over run and people would die needlessly. Business would go broke.
As much as I am worried as well. An organized shutdown is far superior to Chaos if the shutdown is going to happen anyway.
