Re: Surcharges to the rescue!
How long till Air Canada includes this in their model.......
Re: Surcharges to the rescue!
Then just raise the price. Don't add a sneaky surcharge later.
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Re: Surcharges to the rescue!
DHL uses a lot of belly space for cargo vs their own planes. Probably the cost of farming out cargo space to competitors or dedicated cargo ops.
Still a ridiculous surcharge, just increase pricing.

Re: Surcharges to the rescue!
How is this sneaky? They’re being right up front about it. How would it be better to hide this away in their pricing?
Once there’s no more emergency, don’t you think that it’s going to be pretty hard for them to maintain an “Emergency Situation Surcharge” as opposed to keeping a price increase?

You mean like just raise our federal taxes instead of the sneaky " Carbon Tax" ?Then just raise the price. Don't add a sneaky surcharge later
Re: Surcharges to the rescue!
I predict they'll just raise their price once the emergency surcharge disappears. I don't care why a company's price is increasing. Wether it is salary increase for employees, fuel increase of the airplane, carbon tax on truck deliveries. Don't care. Tell me for what price you can deliver the service, and that's it. Surcharges imply you are paying extra for something you requested extra. That is not the case. If there is no option for me to avoid the surcharge, then it's just the regular cost of your service.rxl wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 4:43 pmHow is this sneaky? They’re being right up front about it. Every business could charge a covid surcharge, every business could charge a fuel surcharge. Most don't, it's part of the cost and/or price you pay.
*rant over*

Re: Surcharges to the rescue!
Oil is about $25 a bbl right now.
Are AC and Westjet still adding a fuel surcharge?
Or a $25 seat selection surcharge for selecting it yourself on their websites?
How about the..” suggested tips”. That appear on the cc machines?
It is all about manipulating the consumer to extract more money.
DHL can’t raise their prices as governments have warned against price gouging.but a surcharge...that’s different.

There’s nothing sneaky about a carbon tax.corethatthermal wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 5:02 pmYou mean like just raise our federal taxes instead of the sneaky " Carbon Tax" ?Then just raise the price. Don't add a sneaky surcharge later
Proposed bill. First reading. Second reading. Third reading. Senate. Royal Assent. Gazette. Numerous publications. The media. The CTF. And on a certain day you know that you’re going to be paying X dollars per litre. You can set your watch by it.
But most people are ignorant. That’s why last year the oil companies jacked gas prices 30c a litre the same day BCs carbon tax was to increase 1.8c a litre. People got mad and blamed Trudeau and the federal government even though BC is exempt from federal carbon tax. Can you tell what gas prices will be a year from now? Not a chance.
Personally, I don’t care. One of the nicest things about BC carbon tax is having one of the lowest income tax rates in the country. You have to be well into six figures and making zero deductions before you pay less income tax than in a supposedly low tax province like Alberta.
And like the PST... there’s ways of getting around paying it by driving less or driving more fuel efficient vehicles, having a more efficient home, buying locally, taking advantage of provincial grants and credits, etc.
Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?

Re: Surcharges to the rescue!
BC Ferries had announced a 'fuel rebate' due to low fuel prices before this whole pandemic thing threw a wrench in the works. The fare price is set, they aren't allowed to change it, but they can play with the surcharge as appropriate.

I can tell you exactly what the gas prices WON'T be in one year, they won't be what they are right now.iflyforpie wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 8:28 amThere’s nothing sneaky about a carbon tax.corethatthermal wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 5:02 pmYou mean like just raise our federal taxes instead of the sneaky " Carbon Tax" ?Then just raise the price.
