With technolgy advancing so fast, its now the guy in the right seat teaching the old timer how to program an FMC. I taught a SkyService A320 pilot fresh out of the course how to select and initiate an alternate in the FMS and Ive never been in contact with a real Airbus FMS. Kids these days are smarter, better then the old guys..sorry to say.
You are showing just how smart you really are! There is alot more to flying than programming an FMS. The means by which a flight control is manipulated may have changed over the years but basic decision making and experience has remained fundamental.

That is great that you know what buttons to push, but what experience do you have to offer the "old timer" I seem to remember that you were sitting in a geography class when 911 happened. Saying that kids these days are better than the old guys, is a pretty arrogant claim, to say the least.

I'll bet . Yeager has a hard time working all the features in his cell phone, so I guess you young guys are better than him too...? You do know who . Yeager is right?

What does me sitting in a geography class on 9/11 have anything to do with flying? Yes I know very well who . Yeager is, hes obsolete, why you mentioning him?

I have no experience whats so ever, but I got the knowledge. You got guys that are coming out of Airbus courses more confused then when they first went in. Dont even know how to program in a route because they are used to INS or just GPS or the good ol VOR and NDBs.

I didnt mean by flying standards, but you guys are too old to catch up with us as far as learning systems and new technology goes. In the next decade or so you wont be able to fly without us.

BTW Im assisting in putting together the new AC 767 course because noone at AC seems to know how to use powerpoint

If you fly on a heavy you will know its the F/O that does all the work getting the plane ready, its the F/O that studies the manual and in most cases knows the plane alot better than the big guy in charge because usually the captains are out back shmoozing with the flight attendants.

I have all six, but no call yet. However, I gave myself a tick for my french knowledge. I was in french immersion for nine years, but havn't said much in the language of love for about fifteen years.

O.K.BizJet.

Can you bring your power point over to Moses Lake Wa I have a Super Cat to get airworthy enough for a ferry flight to Chino Ca and we need someone not only to explain to us how to do the mechanical work but we need someone to give us a power point presentation on how to fly it.

It is the Super Cat that was used in the movie " Always " .

I am so glad that I have found you because like . Yeager I'm obsolete and you seem to be a treasure house of aeronautical " new knowlege ".

P.S. I'll pay you commensurate with your real value to the project.

In fact if you can show us something we need to know I will teach you how to start the engines as a bonus. :D

Then why is it that you're having such a tough go learning to land a bloody piper seminole?

Hey guys before it gets too cold, get your lawnchairs out at YHM and watch ol' bizjet a mismanage a pair of lycomings. It's enough to make you want to cry. I think we should call you CFIT mania from what I hear.

Nothing really except that you haven't been around all that long. Some of us were already flying transport aircraft with fly by wire systems while you were still trying to figure out why you kept getting a stiffy in gym class. Somehow, we managed without you.
I didnt mean by flying standards, but you guys are too old to catch up with us as far as learning systems and new technology goes.
I guess you are right, we know nothing.
I have no experience whats so ever, but I got the knowledge. You got guys that are coming out of Airbus courses more confused then when they first went in.
Apparently you slept through spelling class. If that were the case, then I would be willing to bet the instructor was some kid like you who thought he knew everything with zero experience.
BTW Im assisting in putting together the new AC 767 course because noone at AC seems to know how to use powerpoint
I guess you are right again, how on earth did Air Canada survive before you?
If you fly on a heavy you will know its the F/O that does all the work getting the plane ready, its the F/O that studies the manual and in most cases knows the plane alot better than the big guy in charge because usually the captains are out back shmoozing with the flight attendants
.

This is from your vast knowledge and experience on heavies is it? Oh ya and the Captains have never been F/O's so they just appear in the left seat knowing nothing.

I'll give you this, you are funny. No run along, I think your mom is calling.

Pretty desperate ... respond with attacks.

Deskgo, I had no trouble landing a seminole, I have most of my landings on video, so I dont know where you are making this up from? I didnt do my multi training in YHM so you must have the wrong guy.

Nice post, Jaques! This is officially my new favourite thread!

Bizzy, take a step back and re-read your posts on this thread before your foot goes any further into your mouth. You've got a pretty arrogant slant going on there just 'cause you know how to turn a computer on. Arrogance in a green pilot is not only very unattractive and quite ridiculous, but potentially dangerous. What do you think your typing skills are going to do for you on a dark and dirty night?

Do you truly, honestly believe that the skips at AC can't work an FMS? That no one born after 1975 is going to be about to figure out how to fly any next generation airliners? That they won't be able to get along without someone such as yourself? No one's attacking you, brother, they're stating the blatantly obvious.

Wasnt arrogant. Just have heard many stories where the F/O has more time on the plane but the Captain insists he knows what hes doing, then goes and screws something up. Nothing was mentioned on flying skill, but we can learn things alot quicker and information is becoming more and more easier to get.
Doesnt say much for someone with thousands of hours and cant use a simple computer. Its expected you should know, especially if its your job to know

Well, all I can say is that I am sure glad that the Jetblue Captain who landed that A320 in LAX knew how to program his FMS.

He must have had one hell of a powerpoint presentation in his groundschool.

I'll bet he was taught by Bizjet, or maybe the F/O did it as the Captain was back making the moves on the stews.

Dude... VERY arrogant.
Just have heard many stories where the F/O has more time on the plane but the Captain insists he knows what hes doing, then goes and screws something up.
1) You heard the story. You have not personally witnessed this, nor have you worked in an environment in which you might have witnessed anything.

2) He is the captain, my friend! In the cushy new world of CRM the F/O is not expected to sit on his hands and keep his lips zipped, but the bottom line is that the captain has the final say. If he's inept, than that's an issue to be dealt with by Flight Ops... but somehow I doubt that that is very often the case.

Trust me... re-read your posts, the lack of humility will shine through. Look at who you're arguing with here (excluding myself)... do you not think they know better than yourself? On what experience are you basing your opinions?

 I say something thats different from the usual

"Should I buy a PPC?"
"I hate my job"
"Do I have enough hours to apply?"
"I have all these job offers what do I do?"

threads and you guys are all over me. Noone is arguing. I stated my opinion and the older guys got upset. They built it and they can fly it, I know!
