Flight Training in a different province
Hello all,
Due to the pandemic, many provinces and territories have their own travel restrictions. I am just wondering if its possible right now to move (from Ontario) to a different province to do my instructor rating training.
I was planning on moving to Alberta or Saskatchewan to finish up my instructor rating. However, the pandemic hit and the rest is in the news.
I would love to know the criteria for a travel to be essential and if the said travel restriction is still in effect in these provinces. I know my travel is probably non-essential, but if I have a starting date from a flight training facility would the travel become essential?
Thank you so much!

What's the rush? The industry is basically destroyed for the next decade

Inter provincial travel restrictions are likely unconstitutional from what I've read. Not my expertise though.
The industry will be shot for a few years, but from what I've read on this forum, FTU's are still going strong. I'd suggest doing your flight instructor rating at a school that will hire you once you're done.

Re: Flight Training in a different province
My experience agrees with this. Back in 2011 or so, I considered flight training on the side. Talked with junior FOs at the big airline and decided that the industry wasn't in good shape and that conditions weren't good enough for me to invest the time and money. Started a management degree part-time instead.
By 2018 I'd finished the degree, bought my first house, and decided that with the pilot shortage, the time was right to undertake this. Then Covid hit before I even finished my PPL.
Conclusion: Get started during a downturn so that you're ready to go when there's an upturn in the industry.

For now, the last travel restriction in place is for Nunavut and Northwest territorires.
For both, you need to self-isolate for 14 days before doing anything in these territories.

Depends on how long it last. It also seems schools are as busy as ever right now so flying often is even more difficult!
