Come on people, a handheld IS pocket change for anyone who can afford a car let alone a plane, and the cheap ones work just fine if money really is the issue, just like a new $15k Nissan Micra will get you from A to B just as well as the 150k Benz. Yeah, I realize the range of a a handheld isn't as good but hey, what can you expect out of a handheld, it's just about money right? Not some old school BS thought that "it's my right to fly NORDO" or " we didn't have radios in the good old days" someone please give me one good reason to NOT have a radio.

I've done it as well. Let's just say that $3K for the time it's taken me seems like a rather impressive hourly rate.

ATC that controls GA aircraft more than 3-5 miles from a GA aerodrome, and below commercial routes, yes. I'm 100% in favour of it. It's not *needed*. It's "nice to have," nothing more. It's not a panacea to prevent any chance of an accident.

Your aircraft doesn't have an electrical system?jakeandelwood wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 10:30 am...someone please give me one good reason to NOT have a radio.

Who said anything was? Once you get out of bed your chances of an accident increase notably. Especially before coffee in my case.

this little thing will run a handheld for much longer than the fuel tanks will keep the engine running in most light planes, and they cost very little.
