Heard Cargojet is getting 5 777.... any truth to that? And would they be posting hiring for those?

Seems very risky, especially in this climate? Look what happened to kelowna when they lost the purolator contract.

You mean this climate wherein freight operations have not been negatively affected? In fact, quite the opposite? A company that has had revenue grow 15% per year for the last 5 years and their stock price increase by 740%? If not now, then when?
Fortune favours the bold.

The going theory is the freight increase is only temporary.shimmydampner wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 9:13 pm You mean this climate wherein freight operations have not been negatively affected? Define "temporary".
Our habits in North America went from bad to worse regarding on demand shopping.

CJ will acquire B777 if they feel they have the committed long term cargo volume to fill the planes. However, an additional fleet type comes with significant overhead costs that need to be spread across a meaningful number of hulls.
I cannot see this happening on a dry lease basis for a fleet of less than 4. On a wet lease basis, it could be just 1.

I bet that is one airliner that doesn't come with a discount these days. I wonder if used 747 would be cheaper but those prices have probably gone up as well.
All 777 freighters are the shortbody ones - no cameras. IAI(Bedeck) is creating a 777-300 freighter conversion which might be cheaper but not available for a few years.

Re: Cargojet777
Aren't they running dedicated cargo flights right now, which I would imagine would be more competitive than their typical cargo capacity?
Re: Cargojet777
It's almost entirely covid supplies (masks etc) As soon as that dies down I think they're going to scale things back.schnitzel2k3 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 2:18 pm Aren't they running dedicated cargo flights right now, which I would imagine would be more competitive than their typical cargo capacity?

I bet lease/ purchase payments went down so much that it's economical to get them over the 67/ 57rudder wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 8:47 am CJ will acquire B777 if they feel they have the committed long term cargo volume to fill the planes. Forgive me for being clueless but they just bought some of AC's 767's. Are they expecting to double their business?co-joe wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 10:40 pmI bet lease/ purchase payments went down so much that it's economical to get them over the 67/ 57rudder wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 8:47 am CJ will acquire B777 if they feel they have the committed long term cargo volume to fill the planes. Plus they'd have to keep around way an extra set of parts, can they even fit a triple in the hangars?

I think so, and Amazon has doubled their profits this year over last.

B777F is a fun, fun aircraft to fly. GE90's with 110,000lb of thrust a side made going empty from DXB to HKG a lot of fun on takeoff.
If I had a dime for every wishful fleet rumour ever spread for some Canadian carrier or another...

That's their Saskatoon hangar, you can see the Transwest logo on the plane on the right. What makes you think they would be parking 777s in Saskatoon?gtappl wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 8:56 am Forgive me for being clueless but they just bought some of AC's 767's.
