A real International carrier with real world connections.
Excellent fare structure WITH loyalty program.
Union (sorry Alberta).
No cowboys (sorry Alberta).
Will be around forever!
Lot's of "hidden" cash.
...I don't work for AC AND I am an Albertan!!!

Your location says Hull. - thats like a former Pm saying he can speak englishCroissant Wrench wrote: ...I don't work for AC AND I am an Albertan!!!
...and you don't have sit there and listen to all the horrible jokes the biscuit-shooters come up with.
Top this; I got on a flight, morning departure from YYC, and the Captain sang the chorus from "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" to kick off his initial passenger address at the gate!!!
I was stunned...at least he could sing...

You are assuming "Hull" is the city in PQ. Actually, it is the part of the vessel that maintains the structure of the vehicle.
Second point, I have worked for more than my share of companies and the the only ones that I felt I could speak my mind and make a difference, not to mention feel safe, were the ones with a strong union. And now I do believe I have found my retirement job thanks to a very strong union, again not Air Canada.
I'm not saying that this is for everyone, just my opinion. No offence intended.

As a passenger, I'd rather listen to the attempts to make people laugh on WJ then have to look at all the sour faced F/A's on Air Canada. Do they not know how to smile??? Generally speaking I've never talked to a friendly Air Cananda staff member including over the phone when booking. The lady on phone got angry when I hesitateded book a non-refundable flight. I just think AC needs to work on their customer relations, I have a much more enjoyable flight on WJ

My wife was in the UFCW and never had any of those things. All she had was money taken off her cheque. F*** Unions.greenwich wrote:Modern Unions are great. They get us:
1. More money.

3. More benefits.
4. More legal help to save our 'hides' when we screw-up.
Why wouldn't you want to work UNION????

I agree that all unions have their own agendas and some get carried away but all sarcasm aside, Pilot unions do much more.greenwich wrote:Modern Unions are great. They get us:

Accidents happen and anyone who thinks they are beyond having one, is a prime candidate for one. Who is going to be in your corner during the investigation?........ The company? ...........Transport? Who is going to represent the pilot profession in accident investigations?
I have seen many colleagues fall victim to cancer only to have their livelyhoods taken away from them, leaving them financially destitute. Now as cancer survivers, they are financially ruined unemployed experienced pilots. With a union, there is someone standing with you, working to get your medical back and providing you and your family with an income while you work at regaining medical fitness.
Who is going to provide on going industry education and take part in human factors studies such as circadian rythmn and its effects? The company??
Who is there to ensure that CARS are not violated? I am sure that everyone on this forum has every CAR commited to memory and therefore does not require someone to ensure that issues like scheduling remain legal, so that if you end up in a pile of aluminum at the end of the runway one night, the company and transport don't just pin it on you and walk away. Stating" well jeeez, he had been on duty for 3 straight days.....he deserves to be locked up."
Who is there to protect you from being expected to fly an airplane of questionable airworthiness? The labour board? Yeah.......dream on.
It is not all about wages and time off or legal help when we screw up, it is about trying to help the profession.
Standby for new atis message
I fly Air Canada out of respect for previous generations of pilots who worked to make aviation what is was. What it is now is our fault. Take the time to read the interview in the Sept/Oct Wings with the Delta pilot who flew the Vimy on its recent tour. That is why I fly Air Canada and dislike Westjet. There is a lot more to aviation than saving somebody ten bucks.
