What is a professional pilot?
I started this thread in the wrong tone.
I like everyone post sometimes without really looking at the tone of the post, so with that in mind I shall start this thread with the simple question of what do you think a professional pilot consists of?

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

The Bentlix(sp) if I recall correctly,
Travolta
Pro Pilot
Career Actor?
So with their interpretation, I don't know...
But I'd agree with peelot,

You can d8ck around but a pro knows when to stop the horse sh9t and get to business and become serious(not to be comfused with becoming a nazi)There is a time and place to play in the air. A professional know how to determine when.
The bars are actually quite useful in places not N.A. as you will get much more cooperation and respect in your dealing with ground crew and gov't types if you wear 'em. Middle East, parts of Europe, Asia, Russia etc.

Great thread start for me as a 300hr guy.
I'd like to hear what "Cat driver" has to say about this one too,
I think a pro Pilot is someone who cares for his career as much as he woulld care for something very dear to him. Our career choice needs that respect, as we are holding whats dearest to others.

Webster Online Dictionary:
Main Entry: 1pro·fes·sion·al
Pronunciation: pr&-'fesh-n&l, -'fe-sh&-n&l
Function: adjective
1 a : of, relating to, or characteristic of a profession b : engaged in one of the learned professions c (1) : characterized by or conforming to the technical or ethical standards of a profession (2) :exhibiting a courteous, conscientious, and generally businesslike manner in the workplace
2 a : participating for gain or livelihood in an activity or field of endeavor often engaged in by amateurs <a professional golfer> b : having a particular profession as a permanent career <a professional soldier> c : engaged in by persons receiving financial return <professional football>
3 : following a line of conduct as though it were a profession
Pretty much sums it up for me.

Professional
In everything you do around aeroplanes, take pride in doing it like a PROFESSIONAL. Set the example by exhibiting true AIRMANSHIP at all times.

None of us can say we’ve never thought about this age
old question. We have to think long and hard to do
this properly.
Can we sum it all up in a few sentences? I think we can
achieve a consensus if we concentrate on the first letter of
the word "professional". "P" stands for paid.
Dare I continue or do I risk offending some who insist
really good pay has no bearing on professionalism or
it is only a very minor part. Of course salaries of pilots
vary immensely depending on experience and luck. Some
even say it depends more on "who" you know (and blow)
rather than "what" you know!

Yeh, and being in aviation can expose one to other fields of knowlege.
Having been a pilot for so long I picked up other skills and as a part time job I'm a clap doctor.
Jeeses there I go screwing up my own thread...

Yeah, after learning to fly and before I got married, I became a competent free lance gyncolgist!

Why we airline pilots are so fond of our bars (and you thought that all these years we were talking about uniforms).
