Re: ATPL Application process tips
Hello gentlemen, just quick question . Do i need to pass real IFR flight on the plane or enough to pass the same in SIM, like Redbird,(Simenol) within last 12 month to be able to apply for ATPL. SAMRA and SARON done and valid, hours also more then required. Thanks.
Re: ATPL Application process tips
Hello gents, I dropped my application directly in the mailbox at the YUL office on August 5th, haven't heard a thing yet. Anybody knows the average time for an answer? Are they calling or emailing when the application is processed? Thanks

Any news canfly18? I am wondering the exact same thing myself about YUL processing times. Any input would be appreciated. Also, do they still call to say that they're sending back the logbooks? Thanks
Re: ATPL Application process tips

Re: ATPL Application process tips
Has anyone gotten their ATPL processed lately in the Prarie and Northern region?
I sent mine out over 2 months ago and still haven't received my sticker yet.

Re: ATPL Application process tips
AIM 1.5 c) is up to interpretation and different inspectors will interpret it differently.
Basically it says 2 things :
Must be flown by sole reference to instruments
Can be accumulated IFR in IMC or IFR in VMC with hood
First, that means that you have to fly in IMC to log IF when on the line. Too bad if you get great weather the day you are booked on ! Oh and what about descending in clouds through icing 10 minutes earlier than needed so I can log .2 IF more? Stupid.
Another thing is if you fly VFR at night over a sparserly populated area, you really do need your instrumwnts to fly, can you log? My local TC inspector says yes because you fly with sole reference to instruments, half the flight time... but some do not... and why half?
Another thing... if I teach instrument flight to a PPL (5 hrs, remember), must I file an IFR and fly into IMC or give him the hood while I handle the procedures? TC inspector says no, he flies with sole reference to instruments so you can log, but remove .2 for ground time, even if I am in uncontrolled with less than 5 minutes start to airborne time.
And what about IFR training? You have to file IFR for 40 hrs of instrument flight time in order to get him that rating? And if you are VMC (so the instructor has no hood) the instructor can't log IF even he teaches IF. Ridicoulous. Even more when you know that the approaches flown while teaching count towards the 666, but technically not the flight time.
So many incoherances, but talk to your local TC guy... He'll tell you what he wants I guess
Re: ATPL Application process tips
Sent you a PM Minister31. And yea my TC guys I should only log hood when in IMC. Then the DPE we use says they can't prove it and to just log less .3 if you file IFR.

Re: ATPL Application process tips
do they still call to advise that they've signed off the ATPL license / sending logbooks back? or do they just send it all through the mail without any news whatsoever?

Re: ATPL Application process tips
After checking online to verify my tc file, it shows that my license switched from CPL to ATPL. You can check this if you have a General Aviation services account on this https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/civil- ... v4e3T5gur4
If you press on the hyperlink with your license description it mentions the date the license was approved and if the sticker was printed w the date.

Re: ATPL Application process tips
So.... I called transport (Montreal) this morning, Sent my application at the beginning of August, she told me they received it September 23rd (I dropped it directly at the Montreal office). I did send the letter from my first company for flying SIC on a single pilot airplane and they told me they received confirmation from them October 13th????? So I told her that is was already in the package signed by the chief pilot and she said that she will send an email to the person in charge of my file because it's not very clear. I asked her if I needed to send my new medical since I renewed last month and she said that as long as I have the stamp in my documents, it's ok and I don't need to send anything.

They have 40 day to finish everything.Info from Montreal TC. office.
Re: ATPL Application process tips
Nope! nothing yet... The only answer I had from TC is don't worry, your application is active in the system. I've been calling every week. It's starting to be very frustrating because I am still active and might miss a good oportunity. I understand Covid is not their problems but seriously?? What is going on at the Montreal office? What happen if they go pass the 40 days because in my case it has been more than 90?

Re: ATPL Application process tips
Check on+line status of my TC file, CPL switched to ATPL .Sticker not printed assigned data is today. Big progress.
Re: ATPL Application process tips
Yes, I check everyday but still say: commercial pilot, I have over 2700 hours but was limit on the PIC night cross country hours but all the rest is well above the minimum. I don't really understand what could be wrong. I heard from another guy that used to fly with me on a Q400 for a private company, he had to do an IFR checkride because we didn't have PPCs. Last checkride I did was 6 months ago and since we operate on the 604 charts, we don't do PPC but I asked them to renew my IFR and sent my checkride to TC. I sent emails every weeks to Transport Canada and still, no answer from them. I've given up calling them because every time I get the same answer which is: send us an email!
congrats for your ATPL! Cheers!

Re: ATPL Application process tips
Thanks for congrats.
Check your IFR status online, you can see is there your last IFR check or not. In my case i can see my last IFR done in 17 october 2020. That may your answer.
Resuming Logs and all paper dropped at TC Dorval in November 19,got 3 letters to confirm my IFR hours flown in Airbus,
December 2 ATPL signed off, December 3 sticker printed.Delivery logs unknown, can guess soon.42 days.

Re: ATPL Application process tips
Anyone operating under 604 regulation here? I did a PCC 10 months ago, Transport Canada refuse to give me my ATPL because I did not have a PPC in the last 12 months and say that a PCC is not valid for the application. The requirements for a PPC and PCC are basicly the same since Transport took over from CBAA. I either have to pass a PPC (Not in the COM of my compagny so they dont want to) or rent a plane from a school to renew my IFR
just wondering if anyone has ever seen this kind of situation and how it was handle. It doesn't make any sense to me, comparing the 2 flight test guides, they have the same criterias.
