Is MFC suitable for foreign students? And other questions...

Post by Captainkorea »

Hello I'm retired Air force Officer(Captain) in south korea

I was a student pilot in AF but i couldn't finish it... I have 40hrs of flight hours in korean airforce

So I will go to Canada and restart my flight career.

I have several options but MFC is my first option

These are my questions

1. I have bachelor's degree. I graduated National Univ in korea. but my GPA is quite low(4.5/2/62) Does GPA effects to Job interview?
And does Canadian Degree is better than Korean degree?

2. Which course is better? The Integrated Airline Transportation Pilot Program OR The Degree program with Mount Allison University

3. Living price in Moncton. I chooese MFC because living price in big cities are so expensive

4. Can I be an instructor in MFC after course?

5. Aviation market in Canada is much bigger than Korea. Do regional airlines accept PR holders?
I don't care about day off or salary(Couln't had a day off in Airforce :) it was normal for me)... if I can be a pilot in there.

ah... It is so hard to get information in Korea please help me :)

Ive met and worked with a few ex military Koreans at MFC.

Aviation companies dont require a university degree, or care about your grades.
What it does show is your studious and can draw on other experiences.
Therefore, do an Integated ICPC course at MFC.
When I lived in Moncton it was affordable. The bus system to the MFC campus isnt the greatest so factor in purchasing a car.
Becoming an instructor requires an additional rating, meaning more money. Depending on what the job market is like may dictate whether you choose to instruct or not.
Its been my experience, future jobs, post flight school life depends on a bit of luck, and your ability to network with former friends and colleagues who are also in the business.
Good luck

1) GPA doesn't really matter as Teeg mentioned above. However, some airlines do state that having a degree is "an asset" (without specifying from where).

2) Since you already have a Korean degree, i'd suggest you to take the IATP option. It's much quicker too (around 1 1/2 to 2 years to complete)

3) Cost to rent a two bedroom apartment is in the $500-600 range and studios go above $800-900

4) Normally yes, there is a really good instructor program in MFC. The problem is due to the pandemic, there's a huge lineup of candidates waiting to get hired so you're most probably not getting in until the dust settles.

5) Many carriers ask for either a PR or Citizenship. Some accept just a work permit.

Good luck!
