Do experts even recommend wearing gloves and gowns? The link above suggests only wearing gloves when working with known covid cases. I find it gross, instead of washing hands F/As wear gloves for who knows how long and touching all sorts of thing then they pass you food an drinks. At least if they had bare hands they could squirt some sanitizer once in a while and carry on.

I think it’s insanity. Pandemic theatre. I feel bad for the lunacy they are working in.

People sure make a fuss about an opportunity to practice for an actual serious disease. If a real pandemic happens it’s certainly going to thin the heard.

And, further to that comment, here's the correct caption:
Flight attendants wearing protective equipment serve snacks to Canadians repatriated from China and en route to CFB Trenton for quarantine on Feb. 7. Air Canada said Friday it would provide gowns and eyewear to flight crews to protect them from coronavirus. (Edward Wang via Reuters)
Remember that?

Oh yeah, gloves and a mask is exactly like an image of someone wearing a mask, face shield, gloves over their disposable gown.

The Irony is a lot of flight attendants are qualified nurses . So they are used to PPE . Maybe they could do inflight vaccines as a booster , no pun intended.

An "opportunity" to practice? This past decade has been all about the psychology of bending the language.

Apologies for what? Flight attendants are still wearing gowns if they choose. So how much longer will airlines be allowing this is all I’m asking. Is it a permanent change? If they want to wear a gown and face shield in 3 years will that be okay? Lol

I saw a photo of a Chinese flight crew in YYZ that a fellow pilot took and they were all dressed up in full hazmat suits with the whole package: Gloves, helmets, goggles etc. Looked like they were going on a mission to Mars.

Show me a photo, date stamped within the last six months,
of any flight attendants with full garb on.

Otherwise this is fear mongering garbage.

As for me? I couldn’t care less. Gowns, clothing, gloves, bare hands, it all holds the same stuff. The only thing that gowns and gloves do is protect the wearer and prevent cross-contamination when doffed correctly.

It makes literally no difference to the person whom they are serving.

Apologies for try to mislead people into believing that a photograph of a government repatriation charter flight of Canadians directly from China into quarantine at the start of the pandemic in February 2020 is a photograph of an airline flight in July 2021.

I have seen lots of FAs with gown, face shield, etc. just this week... anecdotally I would estimate that it's about 60:40 mask/gloves only versus mask/gloves/more...

In fact on my way to the layover recently an FA was even wearing safety glasses and a face shield, plus mask and gloves in the crew bus... I didn't see what she had on in the back of the plane... but I imagine she probably had even more going if that's what she's wearing to the hotel.

Have you been on many flights lately? I'm on lots and yes there are absolutely FAs wearing the full gamut.

I don't care, personally I find it a bit ridiculous, but whatever floats their boat...

But don't try and say it's not happening.

If you say so.

If you’re going to post a photograph, make it a current one, or correctly caption an old one. Alternatively don’t post a photograph at all.

This one was posted to mislead.

Welcome back to the argument, by the way.

It's a different conversation than vaccines.

And I'm correcting you guys that are saying that there aren't any crews wearing the full garb, that it's "fear mongering garbage" to say so...

I'm not keeping a tally, as I said I don't really care and it's just my anecdotal impression that it's 60:40, either way though it's not the majority wearing some level of extra PPE beyond the minimum, but it certainly isn't uncommon either. Most flights you'll see it.

I'm not going to take any pictures of crews and post it, but I'm sure other people that actually are flying and seeing it first hand can confirm if you don't believe me.

I don't recall anyone saying there aren't any crews wearing the full garb.

I look forward to hearing everyone's recent experiences. Or even to seeing their recent photos. Of airplanes "looking like an ICU".

That was my recent experience. Last week heading to Boston the FAs had mask, goggles, gloves and garment covers. No I didn’t ask them for a Trudeau like photo op for IG, and no I don’t creepily take their pictures without asking. But I’m asking when will the PPE thing end. Definitely had ICU vibes. Anyone still working would know this is going on at some airlines.

And photofly I’m not sure why you are so against it. Your pro vax stance would suggest to me you would encourage more ppe, maybe even make it mandatory.

Maybe it was because they knew there might be some unvaccinated passengers on board. if you don't want cabin crew to feel more comfortable wearing PPE, perhaps you could encourage everyone to get vaccinated?

Maybe cabin crew wearing PPE is a result of vaccine hesitancy, for which you should accept your share of responsibility?
But I’m asking when will the PPE thing end.
When enough people are vaccinated, I guess.

Trudeau will never miss the opportunity for a photo op.

Look at him taking a knee over the graves of the children his father was responsible for. Now that I think about it, we better keep wearing this ppe. If we die of covid, Hadrien Trudeau will be taking a knee over our graves in 30 years as the third generation of this wonderful legacy

That's despicable.

Photo bombing graves.

A teddy bear and his personal photographer always in tow...

There is nothing real about this man, it's only about publicity.

I have also operated flights in the last month where flight attendants have entered the flight deck with face shield, mask, gloves, gown etc. I don’t really care, but it is happening.
