Westjet Caves on refunds.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/westje ... 272_290757
“Bartrem said the Calgary-based airline is now taking steps to ensure that affected customers can collect a refund if they wish.” Cheque is in the mail……
Still wouldn’t see me book with them. I’d rather pay more than deal with this kind of nonsense. You all who work there, realize this is horrible PR — right?
In other news, no deal with the government. Maybe giving refunds was the reason.

Y’all realize you sound like you are trying to spank all the westjet employees like they are responsible for this. People have the attention span of about 8 seconds. By the time you finish reading my post they have moved on to global warming and looking at a map of Canada with all the active fires. What was this post about again? Ah… PR problem solved itself.
Re: Westjet Caves on refunds.
Hasn't Rookie ranted about AC as well? I've had a few bad experiences with AC customer service myself. Not sure if WJ is any better.

Not ranting..making fun of WJ’s disaster of a management.
Just booked something on AC. Didn't even look at teal.

Lol AC management is a dumpster fire at times as well. Don't fool yourself.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 5:40 amNot ranting..making fun of WJ’s disaster of a management.

Nobody cares who you booked your ticket with, not even that “disaster of a management”rookiepilot wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 5:40 amNot ranting..making fun of WJ’s disaster of a management.

So I shouldn’t mock them? Sorry you’re offended. Maybe they should stop offering so much material….YC87DRVR wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 1:42 pmNobody cares who you booked your ticket with, not even that “disaster of a management”rookiepilot wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 5:40 amNot ranting..making fun of WJ’s disaster of a management.

Did I say that? No, mock them all you want. Just said nobody cares you booked with big red.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 2:48 pmSo I shouldn’t mock them? Sorry you’re offended. I mean, they should care. Rookie isn’t going to be the only one who wont book again. I’m one. Got rid of the westjet credit card even though the rewards were good. Swoop and how they constantly treat their employees was the last straw for me.
Re: Westjet Caves on refunds.
Ah yes because the working stiffs at WJ or AC have a say in refunds

Re: Westjet Caves on refunds.
WJ finally giving the refunds a year later, now that the PR damage is done. The media has been running the country for over a year, and the media hates airlines. This was only going to go our way in the media, if all the airlines all gave all of the people all of their money back, on day one of the "pandemic". We lost this battle before it even began.
Re: Westjet Caves on refunds.
AC waited until they got a government "bailout" (or whatever you want to call it), then started giving refunds. WJ decided to offer the refunds without taking any government money. I guess they decided the writing was on the wall, bad PR, etc. But I think that was about the same time as AC started offering the refunds.co-joe wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 8:58 am WJ finally giving the refunds a year later, now that the PR damage is done. This story is something else...it's a screwup on a particular flight after they started offering refunds.
Re: Westjet Caves on refunds.
The working stiffs have done perhaps the hardest lobbying for their masters, (Save Canadian Aviation) demanding that the public bail them out again after having already done so with their airfares.

I see it slightly different. WJ and AC et al held onto the money because in this industry, it’s all cash flow. Cash is king, it’s what keeps the lights on. There is some light at the end of the long long tunnel we just went through. There was zero indication in the past year until the last few weeks or so when the turnaround would be. They held onto the cash, now with the light they have themselves covered, they will start to offer refunds. Saving the company was paramount to a few thousand angry guests who will no doubt do the backstroke over broken glass to save $0.08 the next time they need a ticket somewhere. It’s the Canadian way, we have very short memories.

Think the point of this article is WJ -- not in 2020, but 2021, isn't following their own published tariff. Doesn't matter if the flight costs 5 bucks or 500 customers have a right to expect the tariff to be honored without the media getting involved.cdnpilot77 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 1:56 pm I see it slightly different. I don't care if WJ is half the price, I won't book with a carrier that won't honor their own contract.
Re: Westjet Caves on refunds.
Well I had a similar problem with AC who didn't give me compensation I was entitled to. After months of runaround and going through a third party dispute service, my claim was rejected because I didn't have any proof that Air Canada didn't check me in for a connecting flight (which caused me to miss it). Anyway, all airlines are the same. They will do absolutely everything in their power to avoid responsibility.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 8:46 am Think the point of this article is WJ -- not in 2020, but 2021, isn't following their own published tariff. Me too, but I think AC has improved in recent years. All relative I guess.CpnCrunch wrote: ↑Fri Jul 23, 2021 1:22 pmWell I had a similar problem with AC who didn't give me compensation I was entitled to. Re: Westjet Caves on refunds.
I think most companies, not just aviation ones, are not sure what to make of any of this pandemic and its effects. I had to cancel some hotel rooms recently - long story - and they were all quite rude about it. Hopefully everyone can come to their senses and start treating people with a bit of courtesy, and people relax a bit too.
