Any updates on training?

I will try but there isn't much I can tell you because before the testing you are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement to not divulge specifics, and I respect that so I won't. Also my testing happened in March 2020 and honestly I have forgotten a lot about the tests themselves. You can find some good info by searching this forum and the internet for FEAST testing. I prepared by doing that and found some helpful posts here and some good prep tests online. Also, during my searching I found many references to a 2 day testing bootcamp that included interviews, but mine was one day, testing only and no interview. It was a full day, 8 hours split up by an hour for lunch and a short coffee break during the morning and afternoon halves. I don't know if the testing is different from one FIR to another but I believe I recall reading somewhere that it is an evolving process so there may be differences depending on where and when you do it.
Communications with the person organizing everything were pleasant, and directions on how to get to the YWG center and how to enter were straight forward and easy to follow. You'll find lots of comments about making sure you are rested and clear of mind and I would say that is good advice. I arrived the day before, had a good dinner and got a good sleep, and planned my return for the day after the testing so that I didn't feel rushed. If you have the luxury of time to do that I recommend it.
Hopefully this is helpful.

yeah it was thanks alot! So basiclly find sample courses/tests online and do them to prepare. Would you say the test was easyish or hard?
Re: Any updates on training?
There were many tests and I found all but two pretty easy. I don't think I can say anything about those two without breaching confidence. I think the difficulty for most people is not the actual skills being tested but the length of time you have to maintain focus. Consider the job you are applying for and how important it would be to maintain complete focus for extended periods of time, without making any significant errors.
As I have mentioned, and as you will find in other posts, probably the best advice is to go in well rested and with a clear mind. If you are tired or distracted by something else going on in life, or by your (or someone else's) expectations and hopes, then I think it will impact your performance far more than whether you have practiced ahead of time. Much like the job in real life I suspect. Good luck.

Re: Any updates on training?
I just saw a post from NavCanada on LinkedIn today that "NAV CANADA is #hiring air traffic controllers and flight service specialists!"
I found this strange given that from what I seem to read here, they are only recalling previous trainees/individuals already going through the hiring process, rather than ab-initio recruits. I've been waiting on any news since September 2020 when I did my online test (located at YYZ), so if they are indeed restarting ab-initio hiring that would be awesome.

If I’m not mistaken, the job ad was never taken down during the pandemic. Every month, I got a LinkedIn update that they’re hiring ATC and FSS.atcguy98 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 1:08 pm I just saw a post from NavCanada on LinkedIn today that "NAV CANADA is #hiring air traffic controllers and flight service specialists!"

Nav Canada did post a LinkedIn post today advertising ATC hiring.
And a tweet as well. Again from today. https://mobile.twitter.com/navcanada/st ... 7269876738
Re: Any updates on training?
yeah I see that they posted the hiring ad again, that is exciting! I submitted my application last March and it still in 'review'. Does anyone know if I should just leave my application or should I withdrawal it and reapply?
Re: Any updates on training?
Anyone know if I only applied for ATC on my application, would I be able to submit a second application for FSS? Trying to expand my application to get my foot in the door.
If I test for one, will they forego my other application? Waiting for an interview for ATC, not sure if they'd let me do in-person testing and an interview specifically for FSS though.
Thank you!

Right, the fact that they are actively promoting it is interesting. Would suggest that they are indeed looking for new recruits, guess we'll see.atcthrowawayyy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 4:56 pmI think the person you're quoting might be on to something.DHC-1 Jockey wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 1:11 pmIf I’m not mistaken, the job ad was never taken down during the pandemic. Re: Any updates on training?
I may be wrong but I think that even if you were to withdraw, you would still have to wait those 2 or 3 years (whatever it is now, I haven't looked in a long time) before you can reapply anyway. So, it's best to just keep your application in as is.
By the way, did you only do the online test and your status says "Review"? Mine says "Assessment".
Re: Any updates on training?
No I haven't done the online assessment yet, I have been at 'review' since applying in Marchatcguy98 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 5:27 pmI may be wrong but I think that even if you were to withdraw, you would still have to wait those 2 or 3 years (whatever it is now, I haven't looked in a long time) before you can reapply anyway. Best to contact the careers desk.... my link when I applied never got sent and I had to follow up a week or so later and they sent right away. After passing it changes your status to "Assessment"tysto wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 7:14 pmNo I haven't done the online assessment yet, I have been at 'review' since applying in Marchatcguy98 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 5:27 pmI may be wrong but I think that even if you were to withdraw, you would still have to wait those 2 or 3 years (whatever it is now, I haven't looked in a long time) before you can reapply anyway. There is actually a newly dated job posting on the careers page- I know, during the pandemic, there was a long standing posting, but I believe this has been refreshed. I'm also seeing new ads for hiring; even though my online habits haven't changed, changing my algorithms.

Hey, unless things have changed, normally an application is for all streams at once. You may have selected your preference but that means little down the line.kaye.boe wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 7:54 am Anyone know if I only applied for ATC on my application, would I be able to submit a second application for FSS? Re: Any updates on training?
Does anyone know what happens if you pass on an interview from a location you'd rather not move to?
For example if I am hoping to work in Montreal but get an offer for an interview for YVR and state it is only for that region, if I don't take it will I be eligible for a future spot in Montreal?
What if I take the interview, does that lock me into YVR? Let's say I ace the interview and turn down the position, can I wait for an opening in Mtl?
Thanks! Either way it's super exciting.

Re: Any updates on training?
Only the people who are offering the interview can answer this question. In the past, YYZ applicants were offered a chance to do feast test in YQX, but their applicant files were retained in YYZ.ATChopeful182 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 8:28 am Does anyone know what happens if you pass on an interview from a location you'd rather not move to?

The question you want to ask is: "If I attend this recruitment activity, will my applicant file be retained in my home area or this new area".
Please keep in mind that once you are locked in to an FIR, it may take at least 4 years from the time you start training before you can bid for a transfer. And some locations are more in demand than others.
I think YVR and east coast might be tougher to bid a transfer to than Toronto and Montreal. But this is my speculation. Maybe CATCA members can comment.

Re: Any updates on training?
Are there any IFR trainees who were in specialty still waiting to be called back?
Re: Any updates on training?
I've heard some offers may be going out for March VFR / IFR in YEG. Has anyone received one for that recently?

Re: Any updates on training?
Offers for YEG IFR courses starting this March went out in December. If you're hearing some offers going out recently for courses starting March they are probably for people who were on standby.
