Dear Joe

Post by Springbok »

Dear Joe,

Would it be possible to have a seperate forum so that the story tellers can post their stuff. It might be kind of neat to have it all together and it might be easier to follow. 182driver and his Henri stories are a good example. Catdriver also has some great stuff and many of the chaps show some real talent when the mood takes them.

My interest is that I would also like to post my stories and look at the possibility of compiling an AvCanada story book once we have enough material. Profits generated from this book could be pumped back into the AvCanada website and / or to a worthy Canadian aviation cause if there is one.

Your feedback and the opinions of all the users would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards and Happy landings,

Springbok

Yes this would be possible and easy to setup. What would you call the new forum?

I am planning to change the index page in the middle of November to show fewer forums and categories. In fact I am planning to spend the last two weeks in November doing some work on fixing AvCanada up a little. I would like to merge some forums that are not receiving a lot of traffic with some of the busier forums.

If anyone has any suggestions on which forums should get the axe let me know.

My hope is to remove 10 forums and possible add two new ones.

Something like "Around the Campfire" or "Once upon a time..". I am sure the folks out there could come up with something more distinctly Canadian. Maybe put it out on a poll and then you choose?

It is the book idea a feasable one?

delete

questions forum
aviation links and announcements
aircraft discussion
aviation humor (it would fit in well with misc stuff)
medical and health issues (anything there could see the general forum?)
specialty air service and combine it with bush to become "bush and specialty air service"

change

aircraft for sale becomes general "classifieds"
allow "Where are they" threads to stay alive for more than 10 days. I'd allow people to post to the theads too. I think as long as anonymous handles aren't associated with peoples real names they wouldn't mind people knowing where they worked?

add

around the camp fire or whatever you want to call the story room

What he said.

Also, perhaps a slight change in moderator philosophy, combined with a sticky in the General Comments (Canada ) forum. I humbly suggest creating a sticky post telling users to do effective searches and review a few pages before posting questions about PPCs, Flying for Free, what everyone thinks of certain companies, pilot wages & the economy, etc. Then, if a moderator sees a new thread about one of the agreed upon "already hashed out topics," they can refer the poster to either reference the sticky post, or even provide links to one of the million discussions on these topics in the past and then LOCK the forum. If there is a sticky explaining this, maybe we can avoid having the same flame-war every two weeks.

That is my suggestion. Feel free to PM for further discussion, if you wish.

Most importantly, Joe, thanks for everything.

I'd like to see 'around the camp fire' forum be called "Hypoxia' instead

I'd like the Questions and Medical issues forums to stay.

I know they don't get as much traffic as General, but I find that the posts in the Questions forum stay much more on topic and are generally more serious, technical or historical in nature.

Medical issues is a fairly specialized forum that concerns us all and someone with an issue or condition can quickly glance at those instead of having to sift through the general stuff.

Goodbye,

Louis
