Of course they have to pass an interview. However, as detailed in MOS4, AC is contractually obligated to take 60% of it's pilot from Jazz with no more than a 10% annual turn down rate. Sounds pretty guaranteed to me.
Remind me... do Jazz pilots need to do an interview with Air Canada before they flow? Is Air Canada contractually obligated to take every Jazz pilot who is eligible for the interview?
Why is AC better than WJ?

Yeah, that's a pretty shit line in the PTA, I admit.Canadaflyer46 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 8:21 am You conveniently missed out the paragraph that says they can ignore all those flow numbers and just pay a REIP penalty to every pilot in lieu of flowing anyone (approx $3000 per pilot). You should know about that, because that's what they've done every year since the contract was signed.
That allows them to pay the same REIP cost either way, but save money on training and administration. With that said, I am allowing my naive optimism to take hold and allowing myself to believe management when they say that they want to flow 70 pilots this year and 100 next.

AC’s hiring portal is now open for PILOT applicants.
They are asking for off the street and from Jazz.
Just a heads up if anyone is thinking that is the route they want to pursue.
Cheers

I also hear WJ has virtually zero retirements, currently having a 75 year old flying. Flight Decks will start to smell like a Old People.

It's a good thing nobody can smell a thing after COVID.Stu Pidasso wrote: ↑Sat Mar 19, 2022 3:59 pm I also hear WJ has virtually zero retirements, currently having a 75 year old flying. Flight Decks will start to smell like a Old People.

One seems far less likely to try to steal their customer’s money than the other.
I fly a fair bit internationally.
I'd be nuts to even think of booking a flight with one of these 2, thats for sure.

"We don't have money to give Encore YOS."
"We don't have money to pay Swoop pilots the same as WestJet pilots."
"We don't have money to refund customers who's flights we cancelled."
But...
"We have money to buy Sunwing."

Yeah Westjet, I want my money back. They have gone from a respectable Airline to “scammers” in my mind.
Re: Why is AC better than WJ?
Gotta call BS on that. Might believe $2300 net but not $1300 unless there was some sort of claw backs for some over payments or wage garnishee.Canadaflyer46 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 5:42 pm $8700 gross, net pay of $1300 was a cheque someone showed me for a top scale 737 Captain from last month (small cheque one of course). T4 rich but cash poor is the classic way to describe the pay structure. Of course the company must enjoy the fact that many have to rely on working overtime every month to increase the take home.

I have a copy of the cheque that is floating around (with employee details redacted). It's true.sarg wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2022 11:00 amGotta call BS on that. Honestly, as long as you don’t live pay cheque to pay cheque, it doesn’t seem like a bid deal. Just take your bigfat WSP cheque at the end of year, and leave some of it in the bank for the next year.
