Porter hanger in YOW

Post by johnkruk »

Anyone know if there’s any truth to the rumour that Porter is about to break ground on a new hanger at the Ottawa airport ?

They need to service their E2s somewhere... YTZ is off limits and YYZ is expensive.

If there was truth to that rumor, where would they put it?

South side of the airport is being used for Snow Removal and Medevac Ops. Northwest side is being used for De-Icing and Dignitaries/VIP's. East side along hangar row is crowded enough as it is, and the "bridge" isn't likely to support the weight. Unless there is a relocation of tenants, with teardowns and rebuilds, unlikely.

It'll be interesting to see if there's any truth to it considering the jet has yet to be certified by TC and the jet delivered and operated by Porter

Ditto for YUL, YHZ would be the better location, no?

Theres a "Construction of New Aircraft Hangar and Associated Taxiway" on the TC website. "Hangar construction: 200 Convair Private - Hangar and associated parking and apron areas to be constructed north of 250 Convair Private, south of new taxiway in line with the extension of Convair Private."

Under the ground lease with Transport Canada, the OIA Authority (OIAA) has a mandate to provide an aviation gateway for Canada's Capital Region and an economic engine that drives prosperity for our community. In order to promote development in the North Field, the OIAA is looking to construct a new taxiway to provide airside access to future aviation-related buildings. The project consists of several components.

Taxiway construction: The taxiway will be located north of Hangar 14 and east of Taxiway Alpha. The taxiway will be constructed to TP312 5th edition standards to accommodate up to AGN VI aircraft.

Extension of Convair Private: Convair Private will be extended to the north to provide access to a new hangar facility being built in the vicinity of Croil Private and Convair Private as part of the project.

Hangar construction: 200 Convair Private - Hangar and associated parking and apron areas to be constructed north of 250 Convair Private, south of new taxiway in line with the extension of Convair Private.

…no..that would be Westjet which let go all their YOW CSR’s etc last month. (All underwing was already contract, now CSR’s as well.

Porter has already hired some of them, joining Ex. WJ pilots, FA’s, AME’s, schedulers etc as the eastern retreat continues.

Westjet terminated its above the wing staff in YOW at least 2 years ago and contracted out the work to the lowest bidder.
