Private flying YAZ
I’m planning on doing some private flying to Tofino this summer. Is there an easy, and walkable way to get from the airport down to the beach? A friend mentioned that 30 years ago he used to just climb down the slope by the end of one of the runways right on to the beach. I’m guessing walking around the runway area isn’t really an option anymore?
Re: Private flying YAZ
15 years ago was still scrambling down to the beach off the end of a runway... airport isn't (wasn't) access controlled.
But it's still only a short walk from parking down to the beach via roads if you can't do the scramble anymore, maybe 25 minutes or so, they have a super nice trail along the highway to walk on now too.

Thanks. I figured now that the airport is a bit busier with some scheduled service and such, there would likely be a few more people around to possibly report you. What is the legality of walking around an airport that isn’t access controlled?
Where would be the best place in the lower mainland to rent a plane for the day?

There is now a proper maintained path at the eastern end of apron 3.

Bring lots of reserve gas when you go there. My experience was that the fog sits just off shore, and rolls in, then drifts out, and seems to repeat this over and over again. When the fog rolls in it's well below MDA on the approach so you descend to minimums and aren't even in the overcast layer yet. Obviously there's lots of high terrain to watch for. Taxiway B, feels like you left the airport and taxi'd off into the forest, if you take it to 15. I think big wheels are a good idea, the pavement is pretty bad that way.

It follows the road or goes down the slope at the end of the runway?
Re: Private flying YAZ
It goes directly east to the airport road, then you walk down the road. If you look on google maps you can see it on the satellite view. The path starts at the NE end of the main apron.Joe Blow Schmo wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 6:49 pmIt follows the road or goes down the slope at the end of the runway?

Does any operator in the Fraser Valley or Vancouver Island rent out twins?
