Converting a Canadian ATPL to a US Commercial or ATPL

Post by Spandau »

Does anybody here know how to go about converting a Canadian license to a US one? I've had enough of the snow!

Search in the corporate forum. There's a thread over there detailing what you need to do. Lots of Canadian AMEs will happily do a FAA Class 1 or 2 medical.

You'll need to fill out a form requesting a foreign license conversion through IACRA (FAAs website) then the rest depends on how much money you want to spend. Converting to an ATP costs near or about 7000-9000 CAD depending on what course and which pilot document examiner you go through.

The easy part is the license. The part that is going to determine whether you will be successful is your commitment to completing the work visa.

Cheers,

I've an invitation, if that's what you mean. And it's for heavy money.

I suppose an "invitation/offer of employment" can lead to a work visa. Very hard to come by though. Good luck down there!

What I've seen so far is operations so desperate to fill their seats that they forget to look at the nationality of the candidate until its too late.

Then the question of do you actually have the right to work down here comes up, which typically is a no and then they say we'll get back to you. If they are decent people, they'll follow up with thanks, but we don't sponsor, please apply for the NIW to self sponsor and let us know when that is complete....

There is a good website outlining all the steps. I forget which one it is. You can just Google it.
