is there any new equipment bid for 2022?
As of right now, there will be one in august.

Any idea what bases/equipment will be offered in the first GS?

Attrition vacancies to AC (or elsewhere) can be filled at company discretion.

There will be an equipment bid in August that will include an ‘AC buffer’ that will factor in AC attrition resulting in significant hiring at Jazz.

Jazz has already begun preemptive hiring staring in May.

Current plan is no E175 FO awards to new-hires prior to Fall 2022. This is due to simulator and training resource availability.

So one can anticipate Q400 and CRJ FO vacancies for new-hires. Guessing most bases available. If your first choice base is not available, make sure to pick equipment that is staffed on your desired base and reflect that in your standing bid so that you will be eligible for a follow on award within seniority (training freeze applies to equipment, not base).

Good luck to all.

If someone on the May 16th GS were to get CRJ YYC and wants YYZ, and the June GS has a YYZ CRJ available for new hires, how does the May new hire claim that position? Does he have to wait for a bid?

There is a standing bid that you fill out and the company checks it before assignment

I respectfully suggest you wouldn't even be finished your training let alone in a position to displace someone else from their "assigned" type. I suspect you would have to show a little bit paitence and wait for the next equipment bit following your date of hire.

If I understand it correctly, it's not a displacement. It's filling a vacancy. They award it based on seniority and with freezes in place, except if someone senior wants to move they'll be able to change base.

Patience not required, if you put a standing bid for a base change. It would be awarded to the pilot hired first and then their vacant position would be offered in the ground school.
Many times, pilots have been awarded their preferred base while still undergoing initial training.
That being said, if you were awarded any CRJ base other than YYZ and get YYZ while in your initial training, there might be some hotel and per diem issues, since all RJ training is in YYZ. I’ll have a look but if someone knows how new hire(initial training) works for that, feel free to chime in.

All new hires get hotels and perdiems regardless of base assignment or distance of their residence to the training facility.

How is the YVR base looking these days? Are there vacancies for the Q and the RJ available?

Backfilling is when a pilot from YVR moves on, they backfill from current Jazz pilots who have a standing bid for YVR. I would say a new hire has a pretty good shot at YVR before they are done initial training.

YVR base reducing. Air Canada will be getting 220's in and Jazz will be only focusing on East. And with PAL new deal East also will be competitive.

Think about going to JAZZ!
