Convert Canadian CPL to FAA CPL

Post by sky.is.limited »

Hello,

Has anyone recently converted their Canadian CPL to FAA CPL? Or anyone knows information about this matter?

I did some research myself, by the sound of it, I will need a FAA class 3 medical to start with. After that, I will need to do a 40 questions on the conversion exam with at least 70% mark and a flight test in order to be able to convert FAA license. Beside that, Is there anything else? Also, with the covid situation, looks like all the designated exam centers in the State are closed. Even if they open, with the covid restriction changing all the time in Canada, its hard to book the exam to go to the State. I just feel like I am stuck haha

Any thought or recommendations?

Have you read AC 61-135A?

https://www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/med ... 1-135A.pdf

Everything is laid out in there, otherwise call your closest FSDO and they are very helpful with explaining anything that isn't clear to you from the document.

You'll need a third-class medical to do the conversion but at minimum a second-class if you want to exercise commercial privileges.
You don't need a flight test to convert the licence but you may need to do a biannual flight review (BFR) before acting as PIC.

No, all that is actually wrong. I will tell you how I did this... Step 1, get yourself an FAA Class 1 Medical (you can get Class 3 but I did Class 1). Dr. Trevor Gillmore in Vaughan does this. Step 2: Open an account in IACRA at https://iacra.faa.gov/IACRA/Default.aspx, fill out the IACRA information, and request "Validation of Foreign License". Step 3: Go on Gleim, buy the CCP (Commercial Canadian Conversion) and ICP (Instrument Canadian Conversion), and study those two while you wait for TC to send your license verification to the FAA. Step 4: Go on PSI exams and book the two exams at a test centre near you in the US at https://faa.psiexams.com/faa/login. Step 5: Go write the exams, do not do this before August 8 as you will be required to quarantine and make sure you have a negative PCR test within 72 hours prior to entering the US and coming back to Canada. Step 6: Contact an FSDO near you found at https://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/fi ... all_fsdos/ and then tell them you are doing a conversion and setup an appointment with them. Step 7: Attend the zoom appointment with them and provide them your info for a temporary FAA Commercial with Instrument, Multi, Seaplane, whatever... Step 8: Get your FAA license card in the mail 90 days after.

Hello, I would also like to convert my Canadian commercial license to American.

I have an appointment with a doctor on July 20 and I would like to know to save time can I register on IACRA for verification before taking the medical examination.

Thanks.
