7) Hiring outlook
Min. hiring requirements/ What they look for

Re: Calm Air.
1.) YWG: mostly skeds, some freight flying out of YTH or YRT. Averages have been around 80-90 credits per month.
YTH: Mostly freight, half Manitoba, half Arctic freight. Some skeds up to Rankin. New hires will most likely be based in YTH.
2.)yes
3.) Anywhere from 3 to 12. You will only do 12 if you want to do 12. Some overnights in YTH for YWG pilots.
4.) HAHAHAHa.... People really like it here. Maybe 5-7 years for YWG, 4-6 for YTH.
5.) Up and down. People don't like change. Lots of changes going on right now. Morale is low right now, but I could see things getting better soon. Still one of the best paying regionals around.
6.) Per diems around $6000-$10,000/year.
Base salary around $45000 to start, but that's based on minimums. It's easy to make 10 credits above minimums every month.
7.) A bunch of people have left for other jobs lately, so it's a possibility. They seem to hire in the second quarter. 1000 hrs with ATPL exams written seems to be a good starting point. They did hire a guy with 800 hrs last year, and they hired a few instructors lately, so it's not a firm number, but it's a starting point.
YTH: Mostly freight, half Manitoba, half Arctic freight. Some skeds up to Rankin. New hires will most likely be based in YTH.

Re: Calm Air.
They're getting rid of the jets and replacing them with more ATRs. Don't know when that's happening but a buddy who works there said that's the plan.
Re: Calm Air.
Pretty sure the 72's are the machines coming over from summit. Those guys seem to be into everyone's business.

Re: Calm Air.
Here are the latest for Feb. 2022:
1) Schedule out of YWG and YTH? Out of YWG is mostly charter work and Sched. You may go do a freighter pairing in NW Ontario or to Thunder Bay. Fun Stuff! Most Sched pairings are out of Rankin Inlet. 3-4 days parings usually. For YTH, it is all freighters on the ATR 72. Best flying for logging time, experience and all round fun! You will be sleeping at home every night. New hires are based in YTH. Both bases we average working for 12-14 days a month based on bidding.
2) Does the YTH crew do cargo mainly? All cargo with rare chances of sched. flying.
3) How many over nights in Rankin and Churchill per month usually? Depends on seniority. couple of pairings. No overnights in Churchill anymore.
4) Upgrade times? Couple of 1000 hours and some PIC time.
5) Company moral ? Very positive, solid pay and great contract with ALPA.
6) Average take home $$ as far as Salary and per diems for first year FO? You will first be based in YTH and can quickly bid Winnipeg once they hire the next group of guys. You will take home between $2500-$3000 a month. Not much per diems out of YTH!

Re: Calm Air.
What does the sched and pay look like for Captains? How much reserve can you get if you bid for it? What is the callout time if you're on reserve?

Re: Calm Air.
It would be great if someone could kindly provide updated information regarding the original poster's questions.
Also, do they have a bond on the ATR for FO & CPT?
Thank you!

Re: Calm Air.
I remember applying to Calm Air back in 2011. Hawker. ATR. SAAB…. YTH. YYQ. YWG… I didn’t care.
3000 hrs, ATPL, multi turbine PIC, worked for another EIC company….. crickets
The only company I ever applied to and didn’t hear a response. Must of been something I said.
Sorry to side track the convo. I’m not sure if they’re hiring. Just wanted to throw that out there though.
