Christmas Eve Flight Home - "The Shepherd - Frederick Forsyth

Post by wassingleswineherder »

Hello Folks:

Exceptionally rare I pop around any more, but can't miss this Christmas tradition begun many years ago by "The Old Fogducker" I believe.

"The Shepherd" by Frederick Forsyth was written as a short story for his son but soon became popular.

Here is the link to the exceptionally well produced CBC program segment performed by the late Alan Maitland.

Cheers folks!
Stay safe, never stop learning.

Thanks for the lovely reminder of the great story.
Good to see you're still around a bit.

A very Merry Christmas to one and all involved in the wide, wide world of aviation.

Many years ago one of the now banned regular contributors to the forum "The Old Fogducker" began posting links to the few moments each year when even Old Foggy felt he received a slight return on investment in the funding of the CBC.

Since The Foggy One is persona non grata, I will post this link for the enjoyment of all on his behalf.

Here is one of the finest readers the CBC ever employed, Mr.Allan Maitland performing "The Shepherd."

Also worthy of note, the Disney Corp has turned the story into a movie starring John Travolta.

Dammit I was so exciting to see the movie. But such a disappointment. It leaves out so many details that are crucial to the story.

Even my non pilot friends were wondering "Why didn't he just turn back?" "Why would a failed compass prevent you from landing in good weather?" "Does a compass need electricity to function?"

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

I thought John Travolta would have been all over these details, but yes, I was a bit let down too
