What’s the average wait time to hear back after applying? 1200 hours with multi pic time. Applied at the same time as other Q400 operators. At the point of accepting from porter competition, though porter was a first choice if offered.

Typically a few weeks after applying. Good luck with your decision.

Haha as much as some might say a Q400 operator going from airport to airport in Canada is competition I wouldn’t touch encore

You realize encore starting FOs make 35% higher pay then a starting porter pilot? And aswell, encore is socialized bidding, which means a good solid livable and workable schedule on DAY 1. I have friends that have been at porter for years and still dont even have a schedule outside of res, not to mention the lower pay and loss of perdiums. I wouldn't be so quick to write encore off

How long to go from the Q to the Emb? At Encore it’s around 6 years to flow to the jet, and for a new hire you no longer carry any seniority with you. So Encore is a deadend job to take waiting for AC to call, is there more of a future at Porter for a new hire FO on the Q?

Not on paper. Encore starting pilots make 35% more then porter pilots period. All the money has been paid (it was a rocky start tho) not to mention the pilots in our closing base are being dead headed to yyc for work. Which actually means less work and MORE pay due to dead head pay. They are making on average of another 8k raise on top of other raises. WJ also has a match program for cash which can (if you participate) give you a other gsrobteed 10% raise each year. All things considered, an encore pilot can probably make 60% more money then a poter pilot AND have a faaaaaaaar better schedule. But yet YYZ base is closing, and pilots there need to choose what they would like to do, majority will flow to mainline b4 the closure. And probably 20% will either have to move to yyc, or commute for approx a year b4 their flow date. A real struggle for sure. Bit for new applicants starting in YYC non of that is an issue. Company is both profitable and strong, contract negotiations in less then a year from now. Which means even better WAWCON comming very soon. Encore is getting a bad wrap for many legitimate reasons right now. But it's still a great place to work

Don't compare Porter to Encore.

Encore treats it's pilots like shit. Sure, the current pay is more than Porter, but if you don't want to commute and you want to live in the Golden Horseshoe, Encore is not the right choice for you.

First, the last YYZ Encore hire was mid-2022.

Second, the last YYZ Encore flight is April 30, 2023.

Third, Onex has taken all that WestJet once was and sucked the life and soul out of it.

The company has committed to 100 pilot flow from encore to WJ per year ( and so far that is actually visibly happening) encore has about 400 ish pilots on property. So about 4 year from start to flow. And that is all listed and in contact. Tbere are some big unknowns right now like sunwing, and how WJ contract negotiations go. But as things are currently, flow is not an issue. 4 years is very reasonable. Jazz doesnt do better then that.. and as for the Q to emb flow at porter nobody even knows how that works because they are not unionized. Q pilots have the risk of getting a totally raw deal in this regard. Tbe company is already HUGELY taking advantage of porter Q pilot senority

Yes, no pilot should join encore thinking they are going g to work in YYZ ( the base is closing, that is mo secret). And honestly EVERY COMPANY treats their pilots like shit, porter is NO different. They have no contract no union and no protections. Tbey are expanding at a hugely massive rate, and the pilots senority is not being respected. The pay scales on their Q is totally unacceptable. You wont have a flyable schedule for atleast to years. And as for now they dont really have any solidified flow program from the Q to the EMB. They are hiring OTS and bypassing senior Q pilots... dirty business..

Jesus you’re out of touch. You likely wont have more than a month reserve on a Porter Q, there is a 2 year fleet freeze (aside from upgrade) then its whatever you can bid. Take home you’d make more as a Porter Q FO than a Westjet FO under current payscales and deductions.

I have multiple friends at porter, been there years. They are CONSTANTLY complaining about the schedule. Now some have recently upgraded to captain, and they are going through the whole senority struggle a second time. That's just how senority systems work, they are not recreating the wheel here. You telling people that they should expect anything different is the only thing here that is truly out of touch.. WJ is the only airline in Canada who offers a socialized bidding system, and it is truly awesome. And no, poter Q 400 pilots do not make the same as a WJ pilot... jesus.. what an outrageous and crazy statement. Obviously WJ mainline pay is really bad. But they make hugely more then porter Q pilots, and in afew months after negotiations. They will make again HUGELY more. While poter pay scales stay the same

A Porter Q fo on old pay and with a family health plan was taking home 1600 per paycheque. I have seen the paystubs. Westjet FO after wsp and all deductions is reported on here multiple times as 1300 and 1700 for the two pays a month. I also have multiple friends there for years. They barely had reserve as an FO and now as a new ish captain they still mostly get the schedule they want.

You know what happens at porter when other companies negotiate contracts and wages go up elsewhere?…. They run benchmarking and raise porter rates. So your statement about pay scales staying the same is false.

Man.. your logic and bias is so flawed. Let me explain.

1. You are comparing a senior porter to a junior OTS FO at WJ mainline.

2. You are comparing the poters FULL pay check to the WJ mainline pilots pay stub AFTER deductions (which is probably 30 %) which that money is put into a investment and cash match system. It's not lost, its actually atleast doubling, but it doesnt get reflected on the pay stub.

3. Wj Pay is broken down to two pay stubs a HIGH pay stub (includes OT, premium, DH pay, MOA pay increaes, among other pay increases). And A LOW pay stub ( which is JUST base salary with WSP deductions).

If you saw how much those WJ pilots were making behind the scenes in WSP investments, along with if you could see their HIGH pay stub. You would immediately retract your statements. WJ mainline pilots like to make their situation seem worse tben it is.

Again comparing their wage to the Industry standard, it's a total joke they make peanuts... but comparing porter FO payscale to WJ mainline pay scales is actually laughable and you should really get that idea out of your head cause it's totally wrong. And again. WJ mainline pay will be COMPLETELY overhauled in afew months, while porters stays the same

I am comparing year 1 pay to year 1 pay. I am comparing both after deductions. As for their pay being overhauled in a few months? I’ll believe it when I see it.
