20 is full, 18 is two short of full.

We have people leaving all over the place, with a bunch more doing interviews.

Some are getting Sims canceled because they don't have instructors, while the candidate also have interviews elsewhere. Some are barley finishing line indoc before leaving.

Captains are leaving for Flair and Porter, transat, westjet and then AC on top of it.

Routes keep disappearing, or being reduced/getting covered by mainline.

I think we are past the tipping point and will see a much smaller operation this summer. The time to fix this has essentially past, and whoever controls the purse strings is being oddly stubborn, as of they can't actually beleive the situation the are witnessing.

I am at a loss for how we get ahead of this at this point. I suspect when the time comes, it will cost a lot more to fix now than it would have 6 months ago. No one who left is coming back, and as we dither, nearly everyone else is upping their payscales, and hiring people that might have otherwise come here. The hole just gets bigger, and management just wants to pretend it isn't happening.

China is opening up, and will likely need pilots, and if that southern border cracks just an inch, it will be over.

Such a bizzare situation.

How many of those have an ATPL and 2000hrs ? They could still apply and go to AC in 6 months if the company does nothing to stop the bleeding.

Not sure as to the experience levels of the new hires.

And Yes. If you have 2000 hours and an ATPL, you’re marketable already (depending on what type of hours those are). You can for sure land a better paying job that isn’t jazz and find your way into AC from OTS.

But If you were to go to jazz, AC has two portals, “express” and “non-express”.

So it may be tough to explain why you applied knowingly in the non-express portal when you work at jazz. But I’ve seen crazier things.

This week, I’d say the RJ…but as soon as you pick the RJ I’m sure the Q will pick back up again..

With all the movement to AC I'd imagine you should get YVR before you're done training

Nah, that’s what everyone said but I waited 6 months from first day of ground school to hold YVR on the RJ.
All my classmates that chose the Q got YVR before training’s completed.

For 2023, you can probably add 300+ resignations. AC. Porter. Flair. Morningstar. Cargojet. Sunwing. And the list goes on……

Bid reflects staffing requirements for ‘peak period’ which is summer 2023.

I guess it all depends if AC continues hiring Jazz pilots after March. I don't think they've stated it yet.

Using the 60% requirement, AC attrition alone would be 300+. Remains to be seen given pattern of last 12 months (non-compliance with flow terms of the Jazz Pilot CBA).

Regardless, attrition to ‘other than’ AC will probably also be 100+. Porter will become a significant destination for Jazz EMB pilots now that the E2 operation is on the cusp of starting up.

There are also instances of ‘job offered’ and ‘in training’ pilots leaving Jazz for other superior economic and career opportunities.

And they still manage to find 20 pilots every 3 weeks to fill the classes...

IFJazz can find AND retain 20 new-hire pilots every third Monday, it will probably still not keep up with 2023 attrition, not to mention upgrade ability issues.

And if AC flow ratio is not honoured, non-AC attrition rates will increase exponentially.

There needs to be a broader solution reached involving ALL parties. There is no sign that is coming.

There are 250+ E170 endorsed Jazz pilots. That is quite a hiring pool if a better offer is made than what Jazz is offering.

I have heard that in some instances that ‘referer’ and ‘referee’ are splitting the $7500……

It is now the ‘standard’ that a starting B737 CA with Part 705 command experience is worth at least $150/hr on day 1. Porter is offering around $125/hr for a smaller airplane. If a pilot shows up previously endorsed (transferable PPC) requiring just a Porter PPC it should be worth a signing bonus of at least $20k in training cost savings considering reduced training footprint.
