An Open Question for other Pilots

Post by Lo'n'slo »

Hello

I am new to this kind of thing but hope someone may be able to help.

I am working for a small remote charter operation flying single engine aircraft. I've been with the company (and a very good employee to the company) for three full years now. I have 2000 TT and fly roughly 85-100 hours per month depending on the season (I am full time). I am paid a salary with no allowance for mileage, on-call, holdover, etc.

I write seeking info on what "really" are the salaries out there for comparable companies - I seem to get really mixed numbers from everyone I ask.

A company like this - and a pilot like me - what sort of salary could I consider 'industry average?' I need something to go with as I am going bloody bankrupt on the salary I have now.

Your input is appreciated.

Thanks!

If you are flying 85 - 100 hours a month and have been doing so for the past three years, You are making the company a tonne of money. Why should you suffer? You deserve a fair salary that will allow you to pay rent, have a car, buy food and afford the occasional treat on payday.

If the cost of living is very high were you work, then the salary should reflect that. You are giving your employer the benefit of your experience and your knowledge of the local area, and the salary should also reflect that.

What part of the country are you based in?

Northern MB & Saskatchewan, some charters to Alberta. Very expensive to live up here.

I guess I missed my calling. Can I interest you in a second helping of peanuts? How's that?

Thanks

In a seasonal float op, i would think $2500-$3500 a month would be fair for a 206...... i wouldent be there if i were you if i was getting less than 3 a month.

Problem is that position sounds like an entry level position and they may think of you as low price labour as long as your there. Might be time to consider packin it in for bigger dollars somewhere else.

3 full years and you have 2000TT.

2000TT - 200 hrs you had when you showed up = 1800 hrs/3 years = 600 hrs per year or roughly 50 hrs per month.

Either way, it sounds like you've outgrown the job and it's time to look hard for a multi job.

If that's not what you're looking for and you'd prefer to stay, maybe look at joining the ownership?

... said owners don't own a computer.

But thanks for the insight - I never would have considered that.

If you're living somewhere more remote I'd say either 3k with some form of milage, or $3500 salary. I suppose that would depend on any extra duties you're assigned.
