ALPA unity and over age 65 Question

Post by bobcatdriver »

Some Canadian ALPA carriers allow over 65+ in the right seat.

When AC ratifies ALPA from ACPA, would these pilots be offered the same opportunity? Because then if all carriers become ALPA, the optics translate to age discrimination.

Thoughts?

Not for long. The main company allowing it is in the process of trying to screw every one of their pilots just to prove the point that "they know how to deal with unions."

Over 65 in Canada is not restricted by seat. There are several over 65 captains as well.

It has to do with a companies ability to accommodate the over 65 pilots.
A company that is primarily domestic like Canadian North should have no problem accommodating over 65 whereas a company like Sunwing that is almost exclusively international flying would not be able to accommodate over 65 pilots and would be legally allowed to have a mandatory retirement age.
