Hi..sure..apply and ask for YOW base..base is included in offer of employment. All bases are being hired for. YOW may soon be an official commuting base from Atlantic cities as well, so live in YQM etc and be based in YOW with commuting rules and rights. Upgrades follow the 1 in 1 out format…so when a CA position is available, it’s reserved for an FO already at that base. The next CA position is pure system seniority, so any line CA or FO system wide can bid and be awarded a base transfer which may also include an upgrade, if applicable. Historically upgrades were faster in YTZ so this protected FO’s who didn’t want or were able to move to YTZ, but also compromised on system seniority rights..by splitting it 50/50. Those who did move to YTZ for the upgrade now also had to wait for the “out” cycle to be able to move back.

Good Afternoon,

As the previous poster commented, during the interview, they will ask your what your preferred base would be, and second option. If successful, the offer of employment will specify which base you've been selected for.

Historically, YOW has been a senior base. After the pandemic, it's still a senior base for Captains. First Officers, not so much anymore.

Looking at the list, the most Senior Q Captain has been here since day one in 2006. The majority of the list has been around 10+ years (about 14 of 23).
4 were hired in 2016, 4 in 2018; with the most junior Captain hired in the spring of 2019. Recently 2 of the CA's moved on to the E2 in YYZ.
If and when there is a YOW E2 base, I'm assuming that they will bid back. (Only YYZ currently for E2).

As for the FO's, the most senior Q FO was hired in 2016, and only 3 were hired prior to the pandemic, or in other words, 16 of 20 were hired in 2022 onwards.

Current roster for YOW is 19 Captains, and 18 FO's; there's room for 25 in each position. If you want to be at Porter in YOW, there's room.
As long as you meet the requirements of 1000TT, pass the SIM EVAL (IFR and 2 Crew skills), and general HR interview: we will be seeing you in YOW.

All the best!

How many roster spots are available in YHZ? The list appears shorter than YOW. I’m sure many are curious as to when the outstations will be getting E2’s, as well as when the Montreal base will start up.

YHZ is even more "senior" by comparison, than YOW.

YHZ has currently 26 CA and 19 FO. I believe that there is room for 30 in each.

Most senior Captain hired 2006, most Junior in 2017.

Most senior First Officer in 2015, most junior summer of 2022; half the list hired after 2019.

E2 outstations have not been announced, and many are waiting to see when it does open up.

YUL won't be YUL, most recent announcement is that it will be YHU in late 2024.
