YVR 220 base

Post by Admiral Benson »

Anyone feel like gazing into their crystal ball?

Seems inevitable that they will have to open a Bombardabus base out west soon.

Seems well suited for California flying as well as a regional replacement machine for places like YLW, YXT, YXS, YXJ.

With Jazz having ...."crewing constraints" do you think we will see the 220 out west this summer ?

They’re currently in the process of getting a A220 SIM in YVR that is a fact. I wouldn’t expect a base to open up so quick but I believe it’s in the works…

I left the 220 fleet about 9 months ago, but at that time the lowest rnp was 0.3. So you could do the approach for 16 but not 34. Made it a bugger at night.

Not sure where they would put another sim in YVR unless they take one of the existing sims out.

We’re going to be flying the 220s, AC will offer a 40% pay increase for sending the 220s to Jazz.
Jazz will offer current 220 pay to Jazz pilots for the new equipment and all will rejoice, plus I forgot DOH to any Jazz pilot who wants to go over and fly a widebody at the new rates

Yes, sooner than later.
Probably more like 1000-1100 when you factor training pilots.
Things will stabilize at those numbers, the top 600 on the current list are not going, that’s enough Captains for 85 fins.
The bottom 500 of that will be mostly FOs with a some quick upgrades of which AC is supposed to take 60% of, however that’s of eligible pilots, how many of the bottom 500 don’t have the ATPL requirement?
That will keep the FO list somewhat stable and manageable with 85 fins, then Jazz only needs to upgrade from the 40% to keep up with retirement and some attrition.
Unless Jazz is going to get rid of the E175, they will need to match the Porter pay or close to it to keep the Captain attrition from being unmanageable.
If Flair doesn’t survive, this will change the landscape somewhat, that’ll leave some pilots looking for DEC elsewhere, maybe temporarily at Jazz while looking for better. Even if they do survive, I would think this changes the 50 fin plan, clearly Canada cannot support this profitably otherwise we wouldn’t be discussing it.

"There will be a 220 base in YVR on the next bid" has been in the rumor mill since the covid restart. I'll believe it when I see it.

I've heard the rumor of the possibility of the 220 coming to YVR. This thread is the first time I'm hearing the rumor that it IS coming to YVR. Though it doesn't seem an unreasonable rumor, I agree with you, I'll believe it when I see it.
