Are there normally more in a new classroom? What’s the size of your typical new hire GS?

They cannot get CA to leave YYC/YVR. Western CA attrition to AC is nominal. So attrition FO spots are filled to balance rosters.

If 10 western CA resigned tomorrow, then there would be less new-hire opportunities out west.

YVR is not the problem. When the dust settles, YVR will likely be the only western base.

AC pilot bases - YUL/YYZ/YVR (*YWG 50 pilots due to ACPPA)

Jazz pilot bases - YUL/YYZ/YVR

This is what Bill Bredt (Jazz COO seconded from AC) wanted in 2004.

New hires that were part of ALPA carriers before get first pick in order of date of hire at their previous carrier, then it’s random seniority draw…

When do new hires get posted to the seniority list? Is it as soon as possible, or once they get their line check done? Would someone that got his plane 3 days ago show up on the March seniority list?

There is no such thing as a "March" seniority list. The seniority list only gets updated once every January. The soonest they'll see their name on anything is in the next bid in April, or once they are assinged an aircraft and base they'll appear on that aircraft's elegibility list on Report Link.

Seniority list is updated and issued quarterly.

Position list is updated monthly.

Hmm. Sounds like this is in the wrong sub forum.

Yes - that reply was definitely based on the AC system.

If you end up with something you don't want, when is the earliest you can switch? Is it possible to wait until the next bid?

Depends on what it is you don't want. If it's your base, that is a non-issue because you will more than likely be awarded your base of choice before the end of training.

If it is the equipment, you will be subject to an equipment freeze for 48 months,. The only exception is if you get awarded the E75 and want to move to YVR or YYC, in this case you would be released from your freeze after 24 months because there are no E75 based in the west.

The only other way to get released from your freeze is to bid a CA seat on your desired equipment, but beware that there are quite a few that have found making the move to the left seat on a new type somewhat challenging. Many (including me) will recommend to either switch type in same position then upgrade, OR upgrade on your current equipment and THEN switch type.

All that said, there are no "more desirable" equipment at Jazz; all types have something to offer and also have their inconveniences. Best is to make the most of it rather than remain bitter and twisted because you didn't get the type you wanted. That is a sure recipe to be miserable.
