When Canada chooses any new aircraft they need to take a look and learn from the mess that the CC295 program is in.

Oh FFS….you can’t just take a civilian airplane and paint it grey. That’s how we got the Griffon.

…also…you can’t take stock military aircraft and ‘Canadianize’ it….that is how we got the mess with the 295 and the SeaKing. Best procurements ever…C17, C130J and the Chinook. Buy them off the shelf and start operating them.

Fvck Boeing!

If the Global Express variant does the job (several countries have them including the USA), why not buy a Canadian product?

The Global can takeoff and land in shorter fields, fly further, faster and higher than that the B737 variant and burn less jet fuel in the process which should be a good thing for our idiot prime minister and his green agenda.

There is also this variant as well. It's not the first rodeo for the Global airframe.

You do realize the difference between Maritime Patrol and ISR, right?

Why convert something to a task when there are already purpose built platforms available.

I think your missing the point, a suitable domestic product can be had with a small amount of "home grown" effort.

Q400 seems like it would be a good platform for this

ABSOLUTELY, it's very suitable.

For the military I suspect manufacturer dispensation could/would be granted; if that's even necessary, for operations above FL250 if required for mission suitability. It's my understanding that a airplane operated by the military is not necessarily bound by the civilian type certificate.

I think you have missed the point. It's not about which airframe, it's about all the other stuff required for the mission. For the maritime mission, the stuff mounted inside the airplane is what is of importance, not the airframe to which it's mounted.

No, I’ve seen, at close range, the amount of effort required, and the results of trying to do this. The effort is titanic and the results are lacklustre. It costs significantly more, takes significantly longer and works poorly. Buy something off the shelf, put it directly into service and put the money into health care. @#$! Bombardier.

Sure, it’s just a simple matter of retrofitting a bomb bay into a pressurized aircraft, upgrading the electrical system to support the advanced RADAR and other mission avionics like optical sensors, installing a self defence suit, MAD, increasing the endurance so that it can loiter for 14 hours or so and reinforcing the wings for prolonged maneuvering flight at low altitudes (something they had to account for on the Gonzo). The very definition of quick, cheap and easy.

…oh yeah, don’t forget sonobouys……lots and lots of sonobouys and a way to launch them

I believe used that disastrous thought process for the final variant of the Nimrod.
