Allegiant sponsoring Chilean and Singaporean nationals

Post by twa22 »

On a H1B1, similar to E3 for Australians as it's a temporary sponsorship visa...

That's an interesting development. Canadians qualify for the H1-B visa (along with many other countries) and it is a widely used visa in tech along with the TN. Unfortunately pilots don't qualify for the TN and no US airline is currently sponsoring for the H1-B (Air Wisconsin used to apparently). Looks like the H1B1 visa is specifically targeted at only Chilean and Singaporean citizens.

Could there be a back room deal behind the scenes by the governments (which I have very little trust in) to not make it easy for Canadian pilots to work in the US?

I’ve been wondering the same thing for years…

Some clause within NAFTA perhaps?

I believe this is also a part of a trade deal with those respective countries. Doesn't affect Canadians unless you have dual citizenship with US/Australia (but not NZ)/Chile/Singapore.

I don't believe that there is a big conspiracy between the Canadian and US governments to prevent us from working there. If the US needs pilots, they'll open immigration no matter what Prime Minister Silly Socks says.
