You or I don’t decide what’s essential, the people voted in to parliament decide, I certainly don’t agree with most of the decisions made during the pandemic, like your example. In Manitoba for example, when they closed non essential stores, the big box stores and Walmart type stores were only allowed to sell the essential items, everything else had to be blocked off, so it was groceries and socks/underwear only at Costco.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 11:20 amEssential.cdnavater wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 11:04 amWell, since you are speaking out of your ass again, we are not talking about every pilot at every company shutting down the country.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 9:18 am I’m curious if truckers, who make a fraction of a WJ captain, walked out on masse instead of protesting, shutting down the country, would this group support them? What about railway employees, same thing?
Just curious.
If a trucking company with a union was in a legal strike position, I would wholeheartedly support them, even if it meant I had to wait or pay more to get my stuff but that would be my choice, the other choice would to be to wait for the strike to be over and the market to stabilize before ordering non essential items.
Air travel is not essential for the most part, few exceptions, so if people have to pay more for that perk their wallets will decide and that will dictate the amount of seats available for sale.
Not the pilots problem unless that is the deciding factor for viability.
If all truckers walk off en mass, I would think they would be risking their jobs and non union shops would offer their jobs back at starting pay, union shops would be hit with illegal job action lawsuits, come on rookie, you’re smarter than that!
Now that is an interesting word.
During the pandemic it was essential that small businesses shut down, and big box stores selling exactly the same stuff stayed open.
Who decides what is essential?
Anyway. I think the way truckers were demonized during the pandemic was horrific. I guess I am alone in that view.
The only time air travel is “essential “ is when that’s the only way in or out of a town, other than that the government treats it like a luxury and taxes it accordingly, it should be considered a luxury. Many countries consider air travel an essential part of the economy and makes tax policy with that in mind, our crooks are willing to take more than their pound in flesh without regard to the good paying jobs.
The market forces will decide how much pilots are worth, a legal strike will provide some extra leverage, the people will decide with their wallets on how much a ticket is worth, simple.
