There are two rumours. One AC would like to selectively increase pay for new hires without overall increases for everyone else. This was evident in the last MOA and even stated by senior management. Since then the company has been trying to walk this back. Saying they have no such interest.

Rumour two seems to be centred on the ALPA vote. We don’t need to leave ACPA because the company wants to throw money at us. LOL.

My best guess is we follow WJ’s current path in 2024.

For a while I thought rumour #2 was going to play out but at this point it’s too late. Even if the Corp came to us with big pay raises to entice us to stick with ACPA, the vote is open and 70% of the membership have cast their vote. They can’t be changed.

The ALPA merger has already pushed off the gate and started engines. We’re just waiting for the wave off at this point.

Rumors is that AC approached Russ Payson to start up Sky Regional again and take back some E175s.

Any carrier - new or current - that does not want to pay market wages will be facing the same pilot staffing obstacles.

The old playbook doesn’t work anymore.

Smart carriers are out in front of this issue. Others are finding out the consequences of being trapped in the past. Inaction is a choice.

Sadly, if they do offer Porter Rates + $1.00, they'll have no shortage of applicants.

No surprise here. The e175 program at jazz has been far from successful due to: High attrition rate of trainers, low fleet utilization, and disorganized training especially with using the simulator in Paris.

Russ Payson is 79 years old.

I am not an ageist but this is a joke.

Maybe CR is returning to AC as well…….

As positive as everyone was about the consolidation of air Canada’s regional flying, it has not resulted in any sort of gains at all.

Either collectively or independently, if you are offering the lowest entry level wages in the industry then the results are predictable.

Regardless, when the dust settles the Express system will be smaller.

I have no doubt Air Canada is exploring all options to deal with the situation that doesn't involve paying us more. But if Sky Regional V2.0 was to be launched, they would immediately face the same issues. They would need to pay the same rates as Porter, or they wouldn't be able to attract anyone.

It seems short sighted and the act of a spiteful VP of flight ops at AC.

My fear is that the pilot group is so riled up these days, that it wouldn't matter what the offer is, it wouldn't be good enough.

Probably true. But the complete lack of response and frankly…CRM from management has made the pilot group this way. This was an avoidable CFIT.

Has to be a decent raise. 15 or 20% isn’t a raise at all. We’ve taken a HUGE pay cut with inflation and benefit increases. Plus Porter is opening up other E195 bases soon. I was talking to a guy a few weeks ago who is going to Porter once he gets a couple hundred hours PIC on the E175 at Jazz.

Why not? Air Canada pays for the training at Jazz. What’s an initial from day 1 to line check cost? I bet it’s a lot. Saves Porter a lot of money. They can just do a short course now to switch to the E2.

Yup. I believe it’s fast groundschool with 4 sims and a ride. They might toss in a ground trainer SIT but I can’t be sure. Oh and I know this for a fact also, they will fast track you ahead of others waiting for sim dates.

Not to say you skip the seniority queue. That’s all DOH. But you may be flying before others hired ahead of you
