What can we do to help?

Post by Anonymouse »

As a pilot working for a different airline living in Calgary, what can I do?

Should I stop by with some donuts? How many?

And on a more serious note, if this does get uglier and the strike/lockout lasts longer than expected or planned for, is there a donation fund? Is there any other meaningful way we can help you guys?

What the westjet pilots are doing is a huge thing for all of us Canadian pilots, everyone I know in the industry is behind you 100%.

Good luck guys and girls. Everyone in the industry is behind you.

Same question - how can we support you?

1600.

ALPA has a strike fund. Show your support by joining us, or if you are unable, continue to publicly show support the cause.

One thing you can do is NOT pick up overtime if your company is adding extra flights to cover any Westjet flying.

I also would like to help (YYZ base). I'll await instructions from our own ALPA MEC and see what guidance they have for us.

I imagine we can do a fair bet to help out, from bringing water/snacks at the airport to babysitting their kids if need be (and I mean that between friends, not just a random internet offer. Boy, the fact I felt the need to clarify that is messed up. Welcome to 2023, where everything can be interpreted as "offensive").

I would imagine the Westjet MEC will release some sort of statement to the rest of us as in how we can support our colleagues.

Why not? Why shouldn't another airline and their overtime-hungry pilots captilize on WJ management's unwinlligness to offer a north American contract? Make hay while the sun shines.
As a WJ pilot thank you for the overwhelming support. The unity right now in this country is inspiring.

Wouldn't another company encroaching on Westjet's territory be a good thing as it puts pressure on Westjet management to negotiate?

Honest question.

Probably a better clarification is don’t pick up wet least flying but if your company is flying to fill in the gap for themselves then pick up all the OT you can

Well, let’s face it, a Westjet strike or even the threat of a Westjet strike is the best thing that could have ever happen to Flair.

Yes, they had 90% load factors last month, on $59 fares. Now, they’ll have 90% load factors on ten times that.
